Today we’d like to introduce you to Uncle Jesse
Hi Uncle Jesse, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Uncle Jesse was born out of our shared love for the 90s and early 2000s music we grew up with. All five band members have been playing and performing music in some form since childhood, and forming the band was a way to keep that passion alive as adults. What started in 2018 as a side project has grown into a major part of our lives. From playing just a few shows a month in the early days to now performing over 70 shows a year, it’s been amazing to see how our music has connected with so many more people than we initially imagined. We can’t wait to see how it continues to grow from here.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small businesses, the COVID pandemic posed significant challenges for us and we had to adapt. As we started to gain momentum as a band, many venues were unable to host concerts, and some had to close their doors for good. Thankfully, some venues got creative in their mission to support live music. The Renegade in Arlington, for example, set up a live stream system that allowed us to perform for audiences on YouTube. Playing to an empty room felt strange at first, but it was great to see friends and family tuning in and enjoying the show from their living rooms. To make it more interactive, we even created an Uncle Jesse Drinking Game so people could join in the fun from home, recreating the energy of a live bar setting.
We also shifted to outdoor acoustic shows in Dewey Beach, taking advantage of the fewer restrictions on outdoor venues. During this time, we also recorded acoustic videos to share with fans and focused on learning new songs to ensure we’d be ready to hit the ground running when venues reopened. It was a challenging time, but it pushed us to stay creative and connected with our audience.

Uncle Jesse’s setlist is all about celebrating the best music of the 90s and early 2000s. You won’t hear us playing anything less than 15 years old—we’re here to spark nostalgia and bring back the memories of those iconic decades. Like an iPod shuffle, our shows feature a mix of genres—pop, rock, R&B, and country—ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
As a 100% live band, we focus on creating genuine connections with our audience. We all truly love doing what we do, and that energy inspires people to let loose and have a great time. One of the highlights that fans often mention is our dynamic harmonies, which add an extra layer to our performances. We also encourage our audiences to get into the spirit by rocking their best 90s or Y2K gear and singing along with us.
We’re most proud of the incredible community we’ve built over the past seven years and the amazing people we’ve met along the way. This journey has taken us to unforgettable places—from performing for professional sports teams and Fortune 500 companies, to playing at incredibly awesome bars and wedding venues. Next month we’re playing a wedding in Costa Rica, our first international gig as a band. We’re grateful for every experience and can’t wait to see what’s next!
How do you think about happiness?
It brings us so much happiness to see people dancing, singing, and making new friendships at our shows. Music has a unique way of bringing people together, and it’s especially meaningful when we hear about couples who met or shared early dates at our performances. We’re honored to have even played at some of their weddings. We truly value being part of celebrations like birthdays, school reunions, holidays, and local community events. We’re very grateful for the chance to share these moments with our fans and contribute joyful memories to their lives.
