Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Winstead III
Hi Travis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, My name is Travis Winstead III, I am a 16 year old professional photographer, from baltimore maryland, In my time doing photography and videography i have had the honor to capture many big names and be in many big rooms with people i wouldn’t have imagined myself to be in before starting this new journey in my life. My journey with photography started after a lot of problems mentally i was facing as being a athlete, i played basketball my whole life, and was coached by my dad who is a very well known basketball coach in the baltimore city area, which created a large amount of pressure this pressure then led to me doubting my ability to perform and i found myself after a while not playing the sport for my own enjoyment and i was playing to make my dad proud. On the court i was always nervous and doubting myself i always feeling like i wasn’t doing enough and was this really what i wanted to do. After calling it quits for basketball My uncle (Lamonte Tyler) was the first person to put a camera in my hand, he came to my house picked me up and took me to a park and taught me what the settings on a camera meant and how to shoot, even gave me my first starter camera (a old cannon camera”. however, even after him giving me a camera, the quality of the camera kept me from exploring how i would have wanted to explore in photography so i stopped shooting, it wasn’t until july 2022 when my parents bought me my first camera of my own when i took my photography to the next level going into my freshman year of highschool at Baltimore City college i thought the transition to high school was something i wasn’t ready for but because of my abilities to work a camera i have made and formed many relationships within the city and school and since then i have been building my brand (@shotsbytravv) which i have shot division 1 athletes in many different fields of play, shot many different celebrities such as rappers, influencers etc. all while creating a big name for myself within baltimore city
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part my journey has been smooth, however there has been trials and tribulations but i feel as though they are needed for me to be where i am right now
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I mainly specialize in sports and lifestyle photography. over my short period of time becoming a professional photographer I have had the opportunity to capture photos of many people such as celebrities professional athletes and influencers, however so far in my journey I am most proud of how I adapted to high school. until my freshman year i was struggling on finding out identity, as far as how i wanted people to view me and what i wanted for myself. so as I was struggling gaining confidence within myself my drive for wanting to be a great photographer allowed me to gain confidence through my work and allowed me to meet many people that i would have never imagined I would meet. I feel as though what separates me from others is my eye, i feel as though the eye i have for capturing photos is different than a lot of people in my field of work aswell as my attention to detail.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about our city is no matter what we are Baltimore, meaning through all the trials and tribulations this city has faced over time we continue to prevail through adversity and this city presents many diamonds in the rough. What i like least about this city is the hate and back hand support from people. it is necessary that you have a tight circle and dont consider everybody your friend.
