Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonae’ Lee.
Tonae’, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hey! So, my name is Tonae’ Lee aka The Stylish One and I am a Sustainable Stylist here in Baltimore. I started my style journey in 2008 with a blog dedicated to my second-hand finds and thrifting adventures. My love for Wardrobe Styling started when I moved to NYC in 2012 for college, I started dressing friends for events and nights out. In 2013 I had my first “official” Editorial Shoot and it’s been history ever since. I am the CEO of Style Fanatic Stylings, an Editorial Styling Firm dedicated to redefining thrifted fashions. Our mission is to create quality wardrobes on a budget! At the top of 2021, I started my first 1-of-1 High Fashion Streetwear Brand, Poor Style Rich Fashion, focused on bridging the gap between casual and high fashion looks. I also have a fashion column over at the Afro-American Newspaper, Confessions of A Style Fanatic, where I spotlight people of color who are impacting their communities in a stylish way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With there not being many stylist like myself in the field, I didn’t really have a plan or map to follow. A lot of stuff I made up as I went along… and still am. Trying to only use sustainable products and garments for clients and productions is an obstacle within itself. Sustainable clothing is sometimes hard to source when looking for specific themes and looks. Also, gently worn and vintage clothing sometimes requires more attention and sometimes some upcycling, the process of destructing and reconstructing a garment. The process it takes to get clients ready is sometimes a bit longer and more tedious.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I am running an Editorial Styling Firm, Style Fanatic Stylings. We are geared towards high-class creatives, and our goal is to redefine thrifted fashion through our sustainable style services. The Style Fanatic brand acts as a liaison to our clientele and audience for all things creative and quirky. Style Fanatic is your one-stop for all of your style and sustainable fashion needs!
Creating high fashion thrifted looks using sustainable brands, products, and garments.
The QUEEN of the Thrift. I know the girl are thrifting, but they just don’t do it like The Stylish One. Thrifting is an art. An art I’ve been doing over 10 years. I don’t thrift to resell; I thrift to find uniquely crafted pieces and garments to actually wear.
Becoming a full-time entrepreneur in 2019. That was a big girl leap, from corporate to on my own. I wouldn’t change my choice!
I am authentically stylish. I don’t follow trends, I set them!
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to keep educating and informing people on the importance of sustainability, especially in fashion. I hope to have my own showroom or creative space by the time I’m 30 (that’s in 2 years… *inserts yikes emoji*) I am optimistic and excited about all the things to come with Style Fanatic Stylings and Poor Style Rich Fashion. I just plan on continuing to grow and perfect my craft, every chance I get.
