Check Out Shantel Phillips’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantel Phillips.

Shantel Phillips

Hi Shantel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Hairstyling has been an enjoyment for me for a large part of my life. I remember being young and always wanting to look and feel my best. I started taking hair seriously when I was about 15 years old. My cousin who had normally done my hair went off to college and I was left to figure it out on my own. That’s where my creativity with hair began.

Right out of high school, I went to college for a semester but decided shortly after that I’d go to cosmetology school. Cosmetology school was hard for me as I thrived best without so much structure. After a few trials in cosmetology school, I graduated in 2017 and began my journey as a licensed cosmetologist specializing in hair care and hair growth.

As 2024 approaches, I’m happy to say I’ve accomplished so much of my goals as I’m approaching opening my studio starting January 1st, 2024.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road is the furthest from my experience. When you decide you want to take something seriously, you are signing up for warfare.

For me, I struggled with staying in school while battling with issues in my home. I struggled with doubt. I struggled with watching everyone succeed after I’d slowly started giving up on myself. I struggled with remaining consistent when things weren’t going my way.

Happy to say, I’ve pushed through it all!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed hairstylist specializing in natural hair care and growth. The services I offer are silk presses, nondetectable sew-ins, ponytails, color, etc.

I am known for my outgoing personality and ability to always light up the room. I’m most proud of how much I’ve endured and pushed through, my resilience. Being strong-minded would be what I’d say sets me apart from a lot of people I’m around.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
I’ve learned to always be 10 steps ahead. Be ready to adjust at all times.
