Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Willis.
Hi Monique, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began during the pandemic, right as I was transitioning out of the healthcare industry. Before that shift, I worked in a chemistry lab, and because of my demanding schedule, I often wore wigs and paid very little attention to my own hair or overall health. Over time, that neglect led to stagnant hair growth, malnourishment, and a general sense of breakdown—physically and emotionally.
While navigating my own struggles, I pursued my long-standing desire to enter the medical field and began working in healthcare. I helped patients transition out of the hospital in various ways, and although I found real joy in patient care and advocacy, I was still battling my own health and hair challenges behind the scenes.
During the pandemic, my curiosity for beauty unexpectedly ignited. I spent long days caring for patients who were isolated due to safety restrictions, and I saw firsthand how something as simple as feeling groomed or cared for can lift a person’s spirit. Friends and people in my community also struggled to access stylists because of COVID-19 protocols. That’s when I decided to pursue cosmetology.
In cosmetology school, I focused intensely on hair health, internal wellness, and the powerful connection between our internal chemistry and the condition of our scalp and strands. That intersection of science, wellness, and beauty became the driving force behind my career and ultimately led to the creation of Lethal Looks Beauty Company and my hair-growth and length-retention systems.
Today, I strive to help both women and men feel seen, heard, and educated—because healthy hair truly starts from within. I pride myself on curating unique, protective styles that allow my clients to explore creativity without sacrificing the integrity of their natural hair.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. In the beginning, it was extremely challenging to work a full-time day job, attend school at night, and try to build a clientele all at once. Transitioning out of the healthcare industry into beauty was another major leap. I was battling my own issues with malnutrition while trying to manage my time, stay productive, and adjust from having a stable income to embracing the uncertainty of entrepreneurship—building something I had never seen done from the ground up, and doing it in the middle of a pandemic.
The clientele I built over my two years in school didn’t follow me once I stepped out on my own as an artist, which meant starting completely from scratch. That experience taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, determination, and business. It shaped the artist and entrepreneur I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am a hair rejuvenation strategist specializing in hair growth and length retention. I create both short- and long-term natural hair and enhancement systems designed to help women and men repair, nurture, grow, and maintain healthy hair. For clients who struggle to grow hair on their own, I help restore confidence by curating unique enhancement looks that feel natural and empowering.
I’m both proud and humbled by the incredible people I’ve been able to serve. Through our systems, I’ve helped hundreds overcome stagnation, thinning, and hair loss. What sets my work apart is the belief that hair health goes far deeper than what we see on the surface—everything begins within. When a client experiences scalp issues, thinning, alopecia, or stalled growth, it is often tied to internal factors.
My goal is always to take a holistic approach: pairing internal wellness and habit-building with a consistent external regimen to support lasting results.
I’m especially known for the 6-month sew-in system, which allows women to maintain a protective style for an extended period while reducing manipulation. With proper maintenance, many of my clients have achieved 3–5 inches of healthy growth within that time frame.
What’s next?
Yes, I have plans for expansion. I am a student first, always seeking opportunities to improve my techniques, learn new ways to support those facing hair loss or stagnant growth, and create more avenues to educate communities about issues many people struggle with silently. My goal is to build more safe spaces for open discussion, education, and practical solutions.
I plan to offer expanded options for women and men with more advanced or long-term cases of hair loss, ensuring they feel seen, supported, and empowered. In the future, I look forward to launching my own product line centered around organic, effective ingredients that support topical hair wellness. I also aim to incorporate more holistic wellness practices and education to help clients address hair health from the inside out.
