Check Out Michael Smith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Smith

Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been intrigued by health and fitness. Even before I ever considered becoming a Personal Trainer, I enjoyed exercise because of how it made me feel. During the Covid Pandemic I had the urge to maximize the extra time at home in all areas (Marriage, Family, Service, Career, etc). From that urge, I began praying for God to lead me in the direction He wanted me to go.

The first step He pointed me to was getting my LLC. I obtained it thinking that I was going to invest in real estate. During that time, I had some amazing people helping me to understand some investing strategies and ideas. However, my plans were slightly different from God’s. One night, I was about to go to sleep and I remember God leading me to look into Personal Training Certification. I told my wife and after researching a few programs, I decided to pursue my certification.

The curriculum was intense in my opinion but I enjoyed the challenge. I was energized by the fact that I was learning something new, I had an opportunity to serve people in another arena, and the possibilities with creating a business. In addition, I had so many people helping and supporting. I wouldn’t be honest if I said that I’m self made. God is always my source so He get’s all the credit. Also, my wife, our children, my parents, siblings, friends, and many other special people have been a major help from day one. After about 6 months of online instruction, studying, and testing, I received my credential. I also have to complete continuing education credits that are mandatory every couple of years.

Personal Training has afforded me the opportunity to serve a variety of great people. What I love most is helping them accomplish their goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a rewarding road. I have had many challenges but I enjoy what I do so the obstacles force me to adjust and get more creative. Some of the struggles along the way were not having my own gym, the online community dwindling down as facilities began to open back up after the Pandemic, and balancing time working full time in a career and also training.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an Analyst for the federal government. In our department, we provide support for technicians to assure disability beneficiaries receive their benefits. I’ve been tasked with creating systems, training employees, managing workloads, and presenting to upper management regularly. I specialize in workloads dealing with attorneys, treasury, and notices. I believe I’m known for being kind. I’m honestly glad that I’ve been with my agency for over 20 years now. I did not want to work there initially by my mother made me.

I have to ask someone else what they believe sets me apart from others. I hope people genuinely know that I’ll do my best to help, and if I can’t, I’ll try to point them in the direction of someone who can.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to pray, be content with being unique, write down your ideas, and be okay taking steps to lay a strong foundation in whatever endeavor you choose.

Before starting out, I asked a lot of questions and did a lot of training for free or almost nothing because I valued the experience over the money. Although I always feel that I’m a student, I can’t really say I wish I knew anything more before starting out. I enjoy the journey I’m on today.
