Check Out Maria Villani’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Villani.

Hi Maria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always enjoyed working with people and am a social person at heart. I had talked about becoming a realtor since 2015. I have an appreciation of architecture, design and have lived in some pretty neat cities, including San Diego, Los Angeles, New York City, Baltimore, and smaller beach towns as well. When my husband and I moved to Howard County which is where I grew up, it was a FSBO (for sale by owner) and I was not yet licensed as a real estate agent. The process was daunting and at times, stressful and I thought at the time how I wished we had someone to help us navigate and answer our many questions.

After my first daughter was born, I decided it was time to take the classes and get my license! The ability to schedule meetings, showings, inspections, settlements and everything in between around my home life as a mother and wife was really appealing to me. Not to mention I was excited to help friends, family, and those I didn’t yet know to relax as much as possible during a stressful time.

I gravitated toward women led teams and am fortunate to have worked with some amazing women. It was important for me to find my place amongst a team and work alongside colleagues and mentors who understand my need for work/life balance and I’ve found that at Elevate Real Estate Brokerage.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been some challenges, but overall I am very grateful to have the support that I do. My family has been so helpful and I look forward to all the seasons of my business and appreciate the losses and struggles as much as I do the wins.

I periodically have to remind myself that what works for others might not work for me, and that’s okay. I am not on any kind of timeline, and one of the founding principles of our brokerage is to ‘elevate business through humanity’ and that’s so rare in this industry.

I truly believe that with that mindset and attitude, it can change the entire experience for the better when it comes to both colleagues on the other side (other brokerages and real estate professionals) as well as customers and clients.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a real estate agent and proud team member on The Wendy Slaughter Team at Elevate Real Estate Brokerage. I help people buy, sell, and invest in homes that fit their stage in life, budget, and goals. I am known for being a go getter with a tenacious spirit who advocates for clients from start to long after the closing has taken place. I am building lifelong relationships, and to see that unfold and assist people is a great privilege for me. I am most proud of the constant evolution and pivoting that I must do to make sure my family life is organized and balanced while also advancing and taking time to hone my skills and give back to the community. What sets me apart from others is that I am empathetic and treat every client as I would a family member. I put myself in their shoes and they are more than a transaction to me, they are a passenger in the real estate journey that is life which let’s face it, isn’t always easy.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
It’s no secret I have met some of my best friends from the restaurant business, an industry which I have previously worked in from high school until 2017. One of the more entertaining jobs I had as a server was working as a Hooters Girl in Rehoboth Beach, DE from 2001-2008 off and on during summers and after college.
