Today we’d like to introduce you to Lysious Ogolo.
Hi Lysious, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career started after I graduated from Howard University with a degree in Radio, TV and Film. After successfully going through the media sales institute, I got a job at Radio One, DC, now known as Urban One. Started off in the sales department as a digital sales assistant. Then after about a year, I got promoted to the role of Senior Digital Content Producer, where I was responsible for creating video content for the company. I was in this role until 2020, when I was furloughed, just a couple of weeks before my birthday. It was during this time, that I focused on growing my production company, Conbeach Ideas, a move that led to me freelancing for the American Urban Radio Networks. After a couple of months of freelancing, the relationship morphed into a long term opportunity that then culminated with me serving as the Senior Director of Content for the company’s digital department. I am currently still in that role, while continuing to work on my production company; in the process of working on my first feature film.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road, but God has been faithful. The biggest challenge with the entertainment industry is that it is crowded, so sometimes it is tough getting your voice heard. On the entrepreneurial side, building a production company comes with its share of difficulties, chief of all being finding clients that have the money to fund the grandiose visions they have. There is also the issue of finding reliable people to work with. Through it all, I have learned that when you do good work and always have a good attitude, you will always find good work. So, I am always working on improving and pushing myself, and maintaining a positive attitude.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
To summarize, I am a producer. I produce video and audio podcasts; I write and direct short films (currently working on my first feature film); I also create social media content for companies. Passion, creativity and a great attitude is what sets me apart. I immerse myself in every project, go above and beyond and challenge my clients to step outside of their comfort zone.
