Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynaia Jordan.
Lynaia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Baltimore film maker, born and raised in The Flaghouse Courts Projects in the 80’s and 90’s. Grew up in disfunction, drugs, poverty, I learned life through experiences. Having to grow up fast , my teenage years were rough, from relationship abuse as a teen then becoming a teen mother, it was hard. Feeling like I had no guidance, I began to write, I got out the abusive relationship and found my forever relationship with my husband. He believed In me and he helped me to see my greatness. I began writing and the next thing I knew I was an author, then a playwright, then an award winning filmmaker. I am very involved in my community with school supplies giveaway, food giveaway and fighting for safe passage in the community of Northeast Baltimore. Also the recipient of the NAACP Freedom Fighter Award. I know with having GOD, My Husband and my Children in my life, anything is possible. I am currently filming my childhood biopic The Little Miss Dee Story. Since 2022 I have 2 stage plays, 2 short films and 9 full feature films. I am the owner of Mama Dee’s Productions Jordan Production Company.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It honestly has been a stuggling up hill battle. It’s been hard to build a reliable team, hard to find honest distribution.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a local filmmaker, I specialize In writing, directing. I am know for being a film maker. I am most proud of the example I set for my children and how each day I grow in the film industry. What sets me apart is I am a honest. Consistent person.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe in the industry of film making every time you make a film you are taking a risk. I remember I took a major risk by paying a guy over $10,000 Cash to film my first movie, needless to say, it didn’t happen and I was out of my money, so now myself and my husband write, film and edit our own films. But I wouldn’t change taking that risk for the world.
