Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi Shanks.
Hi Kristi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I can’t remember a time when home decor didn’t matter to me.
My mother always decorated our home beautifully. She had a natural talent that everyone who ever visited us made known. Each time we moved, and it was a lot, (at least 10 times before I reached high school), she’d dabble in different design styles.
While I was in college, I worked at a locally owned furniture store; after a few months and several top salespeople awards later, I knew I had absorbed my mother’s skills.
This position allowed me to purchase furniture for the showrooms, get training on how furniture is created and even attended the High Point Furniture Market.
After marriage and children, I decided to take a corporate job because I believed at the time, that it was a more stable career choice. Although, I no longer sold furniture or pursued a career as a designer; I kept myself educated in the industry and stayed on top of the trends. It was amazing to see people come into our home and give me the same accolades I witnessed my mother receive.
Fast forward to 2016, I discovered an entire community on Instagram of others who shared my passion for all things home decor. I created my handle and began sharing my home journey. My page is meant to uplift and inspire others on the journey, home. Not just decorating it but embracing every aspect of being content with your dwelling and remaining hopeful and willing to make changes to create the home you love.
The way most of my community describes my personal home style is that it’s pretty and calming.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not an easy road for me to embrace my personal style. I didn’t fit in any one design box. I continued to share my spaces. I share with my audience how I pushed through with affirmations specifically about my home and it has helped tremendously.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating pretty and calm spaces.
I provide solutions to help people who suffer from anxiety in their homes. I give them tools to hack their home behaviors by sharing my personal cleaning routines, decluttering solutions, and super simple organizing tips. I go deeper than design. I help shift mindsets surrounding the home.
I saw a hole in the mindset space; self-love, money, body image, and relationships were all addressed but I could not find mindset tools about Home so I created it.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a mentor would be to authentically engage with those in the industry.
Ask questions and also reciprocate efforts. For example, if you are asked to do a project and it’s out of your wheelhouse, send that client to someone else that you trust.
Don’t make it all about yourself. Community is so important and you’ll go further by giving more than you expect to receive back.

This is so amazing! I am always in awe with Kristi’s creativity when it comes to decor, furniture placement, color schemes, all of it! Kristi provides a safe space where she continues to encourage others while on her journey; her ideas may change in what she’s doing, but she maintains consistency when helping others achieve their decor goals. She’s forever a student and is always willing to teach whatever she knows to help anyone that may encounter her. I often tell her that she’s the ghost whisper when it comes to decor and design. If she sees a pallet or you give her a vision of a space, she puts it together in no time. It’s actually awesome to watch! With all of that said, I am extremely proud and will continue to be in awe over her and her creative, talented mind!!
