Today we’d like to introduce you to Kobe Morrison.
Hi Kobe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been interested in being an entertainer, whether that be through singing, acting, dancing, puppeteering, you name it! This passion has led me to self-teach myself a lot of these skills. My go-to method was to learn by watching. My influences came from Micheal Jackson, Chris Brown, and Disney Channel/Nickelodeon Stars which I loved watching growing up.
Such as Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Raven Symone, and lots more! I took what I learned from each artist and incorporated it into my style. When I got into high school, I was also accepted into Baltimore Center Stage’s drama club, which I had trained in for 2 years. After graduating high school, I attended McDaniel College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts and Cinema.
During my time there, I’ve taken singing lessons, classes for on-screen and stage acting, and studied cinema, while also having the opportunity to branch out creatively by creating my short films, writing music, and performing.
Now I’m ready to conquer any opportunity that comes my way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Believe it or not, I used to have stage fright. But my motto was to always push myself to face those challenges because my end goal was to become a performer.
And to achieve that dream, I have to start somewhere. To this day, I still push myself. But now it’s a lot easier since I do it often. I’m super thankful to have my loved ones who believe in me as well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As of today, I’m an independent music artist, actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. So far, I’ve released two singles titled “Halloween Night” and “I Got Bands”, available on all music streaming platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, YouTube Music, etcc. I’m currently working on brand new music that’ll hopefully be released sometime in the fall. So keep an eye out and follow me on my socials to see when that’s happening!
I’m also a puppeteer and own a brand titled TCG Puppets: Comedy & Entertainment, specializing in making comedic & musical content for kids, teens, and families to enjoy. My most recent independent film TCG Puppets: Halloween Spooktacular has won two Honorable Mention Awards for “Best Children’s Short” and “Best Original Song” in the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival and the Indie-X Film Fest. What sets me apart from other artists is that I have my hand in every aspect of what I do.
I write, compose, direct, choreograph, art design, edit, and more! I do this not only because I’m passionate about all these things but because I’m still an up-and-coming creator and performer, so I don’t have an entire team with me. I try to get help from others when I can, but for right now, it’s mostly me.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My teachers are my biggest mentors! When I was in school, I always leaned on my teachers for support and advice when new opportunities came my way. Their wisdom, tough love, and belief in me fueled me to want to become better.
As far as networking, I think it’s pretty easy to introduce yourself and what you do in the first couple sentences of a convo when meeting new people. It is an introduction after all! As far as casual conversations go though, there’s also that “what’s new?” question and that’s the perfect opportunity to plug yourself right there!
Those methods are what work best for me and I think are pretty general for people with any kind of business or skill to adapt into their networking toolbox.
