Check Out Kevin Carrington’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Carrington.

Hi Kevin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I like to think of my journey as a tapestry — woven together by moments of challenge, resilience, and opportunity. I grew up in a community where resources were scarce, but imagination and determination were abundant. Those early experiences didn’t just shape who I am — they planted the seeds for everything I’ve done since.

I started my professional life with a simple belief: leadership is service. Over the years, that belief carried me across industries — from healthcare to technology, education, product development, and the nonprofit world. Along the way, I founded The C3 Initiative, a STEAM nonprofit dedicated to opening doors for BIPOC youth, because I knew firsthand the impact of access, representation, and mentorship.

Today, I’m honored to serve as Vice President of Ancillary Services at AdventHealth, leading teams across multiple service lines. My work is equal parts strategy and heart — making sure we’re not just meeting operational goals, but also connecting people to a mission that changes lives.

Looking back, there was no single leap that got me here. It was a series of steps — some bold, some uncertain — each one guided by a vision to create better outcomes for people, organizations, and communities. And that vision is what keeps me moving forward.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been anything but smooth — and I’m grateful for that. Challenges have a way of shaping you in ways comfort never could.

Early in my career, I faced the realities of navigating leadership spaces where I was often one of the few — or the only — person of color in the room. There were moments of doubt, moments where I had to work twice as hard to earn half the recognition, and moments when resources simply weren’t there. But those experiences taught me how to lead with both grit and grace.

Starting and growing a nonprofit brought its own set of struggles — from fundraising challenges to building programs from scratch with limited resources. And in corporate leadership, there’s the constant balancing act of delivering results while never losing sight of the people behind those numbers.

Through it all, I learned that resilience isn’t about pretending the road is smooth — it’s about building the strength, relationships, and mindset to navigate the bumps without losing sight of where you’re headed. The very struggles that could have derailed me became the fuel for my mission and the compass for my leadership.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my core, I’m a builder — of people, of strategies, and of organizations. Today, I serve as Vice President of Ancillary Services at AdventHealth Daytona Beach, where I lead diverse departments ranging from Radiology and Clinical Laboratory to Food & Nutrition, Inpatient Rehab, and Wellness. My role sits at the intersection of operational excellence, strategic growth, and human connection.

I’m known for my ability to take complex systems and distill them into actionable strategies that deliver measurable results — without losing sight of the human experience. Whether it’s improving patient care, developing new service lines, or aligning teams around a bold organizational vision, I lead with an approach that blends business acumen with empathy.

Beyond the hospital walls, I’ve founded a STEAM education nonprofit serving BIPOC youth, created leadership programs that help professionals reach the executive level, and partnered with healthcare leaders in Angola, Africa to strengthen local clinics and hospitals.

What sets me apart is my holistic view of leadership — I don’t just focus on the “what” and “how,” but the “why.” I believe in aligning mission with metrics, vision with values, and people with purpose. My proudest moments aren’t just in hitting ambitious targets, but in watching people I’ve mentored step into roles they once thought were out of reach.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve never been one to attribute my life’s trajectory to “luck.” I believe in God’s timing, His favor, and the doors He opens when we’re faithful and prepared. I also believe in the power He’s given us to dream boldly, work diligently, and create opportunities through vision and perseverance.

That said, I do recognize moments in my life when the right opportunities met the right preparation — what some might call “good luck.” For me, those moments are divine appointments. Whether it’s meeting a mentor at just the right time, stepping into a leadership role that stretched me, or being entrusted with work that impacts lives, I see those as the intersection of God’s plan and my readiness to say yes.

If there’s one constant in my journey, it’s this: the more I align my work with my calling, the more “good fortune” seems to follow. But for me, that’s not chance — it’s purpose in action.
