Check Out Kemi Ajibare’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kemi Ajibare.

Hi Kemi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started StyledByKemi because when I had my son, I struggled with my identity and my personal style. Growing up I’ve always loved dressing up, going shopping, and putting outfits together that made me happy. However, when I had a baby, my body changed and I didn’t love myself anymore.

After months of being sad and helpless, and my African mom telling me that I look a mess lol, I kind of snapped out of it. I soon began changing my perspective, finding my love for fashion, and teaching myself to love my body regardless.

At the time I was a stay-at-home mom and I wanted to do something I loved outside of being a mom. After thinking hard – it dawned on me that I truly love fashion and helping people. It made sense to get into personal styling!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never a smooth road. I think for me, the biggest struggle was trying to find who my ideal clients were. When I first started, I was taking any and all clients because I thought that’s what having a business was all about, but I slowly learned otherwise.

Also, charging your worth! Now looking back on it I was pretty much doing hours’ worth of services for free based on what I was charging at the time. Based on what I was charging then, it wouldn’t have been enough to even pay my phone bill.

However, I am grateful for the growth because those mistakes made me wiser.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Personal Stylist who specializes in curating an ideal wardrobe for the everyday person. In addition, I also have a personal blog www.styledbykemi.com. I consider myself a fashion creative, but most people know me as an influencer.

I create fashion content that is relatable and exciting – which I’ve grown and been able to monetize and work with amazing brands such as, Steve Madden, Anthropologie, JCPenney, Google and so much more!

I’m really proud that I’ve been able to grow my business and also create an outlet that helps me express my love for fashion. Getting paid to work with brands was never my goal, but it became something that I naturally got into as social media became even more powerful.

I believe what sets me apart from others is being relatable. People want to be seen and people want to look and feel beautiful. I get to take people’s deepest insecurities, walk them through it, and watch them become the best version of themselves. Now that’s TRUST!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Biggest Credit: God, because he gifted me with something so beautiful

My Family of course! – Son, Mom, and Brother – they were always my biggest cheerleaders

Friends- Too many to count, but they know who they are and they hold a special place in my heart.

My Instagram followers: Brands started to notice me because my followers engage so well with my content. I call my followers my family because I’ve had so many encouraging people who would remind me that what I was doing was helping them.
