Check Out K-Quick’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to K-Quick

Hi K-Quick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the DMV, Maryland to be more specific, The biggest part of my upbringing was culture and art. As a child, I began dealing with a lot of mental and emotional struggles at a very young age. But the main thing That helped me cope and cultivate my creativity was art. Everything from movies, music, dancing and drawing; I engulfed myself in it. I was also a huge wrestling fan. And I still am. Ironically that was the first thing I wanted to be when I was a kid. I was a huge fan of The Rock. It was something about watching a wrestler who looked like me and had so much confidence that it help boost my confidence, which was something that I really needed at the time. When it came to music, my go to was Michael Jackson. Still to this day he is my all time favorite artist. It’s between Michael Jackson and my Father that my love for music really sprouted. It first came from my father because when he was always in the basement singing and performing his favorite records I would be down there watching him and learning. Then when I started venturing off and discovering music on my own that I loved, that’s when I started studying people like Michael Jackson. He’s the reason I know how to sing and dance. Then from there the first hip-hop song that I fell in love with was Busta Rhymes “Whoo Ha”. I had to have been about 5-years-old when I heard that song for the first time. But then came the rappers who made me want to become a rapper, and that’s Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. All of these artists I named, along with many more, Inspired me to pick up a pen and begin creating music myself as well as study the art of performing on stage. From there, the rest is history.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was definitely not a smooth road. But that’s inevitable in life in general. We’re always going to have hurdles that we have to overcome. For me it was mainly paying my dues while learning the business. When you’re first starting out you’re basically starting out unknowledged. You’re learning as you go. But luckily I was able to build connections and relationships with more experienced people in the industry, from which I learned the ins and outs of the business side of music. But on that journey I’ve run into many obstacles from janky promoters all the way to people who will try to straight up scam you. But in the end that’s how you learn and gain wisdom. On top of that I was still dealing with my own mental health as I mentioned before. But those struggles I completely throw into my art. Anyone who listens to my music knows exactly what kind of struggles I go through because I release it all within my music. It is my outlet and it is my therapy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to fancy myself a creator of art overall. But mainly I am known for my music. I am a rapper, singer, songwriter and audio engineer. But out of any recognition or accolades that I may receive in relation to what I do, the most rewarding thing is the fact that my art helps people. Because initially when creatives create their art we mainly do it for ourselves, but the icing on the cake is that people out there can relate and people out there cherish what we chose to put our heart and soul into because it speaks to them. The fact that my message, my story and my testament helps so many people with what they are going through, that is the biggest thing that I’m proud of when it comes to my art.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Well first and foremost I give all glory to God. Without him I am nothing. I praise him and thank him every day for my life and blessing me with the gifts that he has blessed me with. Also I would like to give credit to my parents and my family for believing in me and for all of their support and motivation. Also there were mentors I had such as Vincent Chapman aka Sargas Media, Taylormade Roc, Uncle Yank, and the legends who elevated the trajectory of my career, my OGs Flesh-N-Bone and Layzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
