Check Out Jenifer Guinn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenifer Guinn.

Hi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a single mom who holds a Masters degree in Social Psychology with a passion for cooking for others. I also am in school for addictions counseling to become a certified therapist. I went to school for Psychology because I always loved to help others and solve problems. As a kid I was always the one at school trying to fix things even at home. I also am very into holistic approaches to healing such as essential oils and natural processes. As an undergraduate in college at Bowie State University, I was also a part time mentor to children in the District assisting them with day to day tasks.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way.
In addition, I always had a family that would entertain, have large gatherings, cook and celebrate, it was a huge thing to me, my great Aunt Viola Gardner used to own a hotel and I remember going every week having fun eating seafood by the water and enjoying the atmosphere. Once College ended I became a mother and unfortunately suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) as many new mothers are. I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder and depression in 2015 being a student the doctors prescribed Antidepressants in which I wasn’t really interested in consuming. I was concerned about the effects it would have on my day to day tasks as well as my work. As an alternative, I reverted to what I believe in which is a more holistic approach which included infusing cooking oils with fresh organic herbs and spices and flowers! After gifting my family with these oils back 2015, they campaigned for me to push it for the public as a product!

Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth fighting for is easy, so I’ve learned and still continue to experience. With that being said, smooth isn’t a word I’d use regarding my path for my business. Let’s just say it’s been an adventure!

What else should we know about what you do?
I am a self proclaimed ‘Food Therapist’ because I use my meals and dishes to help my clients ease their issues while enjoying the oils over a meal! It is truly invigorating to see and to assist those in need. I am also a member of IfundwomenofColor which helps raise capital for business owners all over the world. In addition, I am a published model and actress. I have been in a few movies, videos, and also books! I am  currently hardworking to intertwine my modeling career with my cooking oil products to bring to a table near you! I also work in the Washington DC metro area as a Community Support Liaison assisting others in lower socioeconomic status to get off the streets. In addition I love to  help others!  This includes but is not limited to donating and participating in charities with clothes for children and families, groceries, backpacks, etc., helping those who lost loved ones.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness comes from within so I’ve learned and it isn’t the material things in the world. The one thing that makes me happy is cooking for people and seeing smiles on their faces afterwards. The best part of that is telling people which flavor I used to cook the food with!  Each person’s response is significant because it is different. I value everyone’s palate and variety is very very important when it comes to oils!
