Check Out Hope Mims’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Mims

Hope , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career in Real Estate in 2005 as a dual career agent for a Big Box Brokerage and working full-time for a Fortune 10 Company. Initially, I’d sell a home just to go on vacation or to buy a new handbag. As I began to sell more and help more families see the value in homeownership and wealth-building; my 20 years in Corporate America became less significant as I saw that I was changing lives in Real Estate and making a greater impact. As a dual career agent, I performed as if I were full-time because I loved connecting with families and making dreams come true. The small role I played in that process was invaluable.

After a number of years, I ultimately left the Big Box Brokerage because of a lack of broker support. My last day there I was asked by someone from the leadership team what brokerage I was going to and I said: “I’m opening my own brokerage”. He replied “Oh, you’ll be back!” I knew at that moment I’d NEVER be back! I left both the Big Box Brokerage and my full-time job to make a greater contribution to the Real Estate industry and the clients I served, I opened the doors my Boutique Brokerage; Mims Realty Group on February 2, 2018.

I started as a company of 1 and have grown, expanded and now have franchised with NextHome on August 1, 2024. Our new name is now NextHome Mims Realty Gorup and we could not be happier to continue to provide the dedicated service that our clients have come to love but also deliver the increased tools, technology and resources to our past, present and future clients. We serve Residential and Commercial clients in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Every REALTOR® is hand-picked as I believe quality over quantity is important for a successful brokerage.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road as anything that you are building requires a degree of sacrafice. One of the most significant struggles has been as an African American female Brokerage owner operating in the Commercial Real Estate space, you are often looked to as not being as educated and knowledgeable. I completely beg to differ. My training and education has more than prepared me to represent commercial clients to successfully achieve their goals.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Broker | Owner of a Real Estate Brokerage firm located in Windsor Mill, MD. and I specialize in Residential and Commercial Real Estate. I am known for being completely dedicated to my clients and ensuring they understand the aspects of their Real Estate transactions. I am most proud of the unwavering commitment I have to ensuring my business’ success. As an independent broker we often have to make decisions that aren’t always the most popular however, making the decision to franchise with NextHome in this current market was the smartest decision I could have made.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For anyone just starting out I would highly recommend several things. Creating a business plan, create a banking relationship, ensure you have documented processes for your business and offer yourself some grace as everything will not be perfect and it takes time.
