Check Out Devonte Lodge’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devonte Lodge

Hi Devonte , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into this world began in 2020, the year of COVID. With an excessive amount of free time, my twin brother and I decided to try our hand at modeling. We roamed around various locations for fun photoshoots, but balancing this with sports and school meant we weren’t very consistent.

Fast forward to 2022, the year my mom got married. At her wedding, a photographer mistook me for a professional model. His words sparked something in me, prompting me to seriously consider modeling. As my brother made a decision to focus on his school that same year, I dove into research, spending countless nights watching YouTube videos, taking notes, and learning about poses. The industry fascinated me.

Determined, I started building my portfolio, collaborating with photographers from my school and local area. Gradually, I noticed my potential and the progress I was making. Modeling began to feel natural, and my confidence grew. My style evolved, and I became more mindful of how I presented myself.

Things took a dramatic turn when I went to college. Initially, I aimed to play basketball at the collegiate level and worked tirelessly to make the team. After countless hours of training, I walked on at the University of Maryland. However, a life-changing accident occurred when I was hit by a car. This incident made me realize how fragile life is and how quickly everything can change.

After recovering, I decided to put down the ball and vowed to take my modeling career seriously. As time went on, something told me to leave my city, so I left college and took the risk of spending a transformative week in NYC. The city opened my eyes to a world of opportunities. I returned to school with a renewed mindset, and soon after, I booked my first fashion show. From there, my career skyrocketed.

Within six months, I was published in two magazines, walked in New York Fashion Week for multiple shows, did a shoot with Under Armour, and also participated in DC Fashion Week, partnering with the Washington Wizards NBA team, where I met their starting lineup, along with many more remarkable achievements. Changing my environment and mindset had a profound impact on my career.

People began recognizing me, often saying I looked familiar or asking if I was a model. Embracing this new identity, I accepted that I was indeed a model. Throughout this journey, I’ve learned so much about myself and life. Modeling has not only transformed my career but also shaped who I am today. By the grace of God and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I will continue to excel beyond measure!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My modeling journey has been anything but easy, yet it has undoubtedly been the best decision of my life. Balancing college and modeling while recovering from a tragic car accident was incredibly challenging, but every struggle was worth it. The recovery process and simply getting my foot in the door were major hurdles. I knew I wanted to pursue modeling but had no idea where to start. So, I took matters into my own hands, conducted my research, and took the necessary risks.

I believe the hardest part isn’t just reaching the top, but staying there. That’s why I focused on setting myself up for success early on, which drove me to dive into my passion at a young age. Many people aren’t willing to take that leap of faith and risk everything to achieve their dreams, but I knew it would set me apart.

In the end, no road to success is smooth and free of challenges. Every successful person has a story filled with trials and tribulations. This journey has taught me that perseverance and dedication are essential, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a model and aspiring actor based in the DMV area. My journey into acting began through my work in the modeling industry, where I discovered a passion for storytelling. What I am most proud of is my unwavering determination. Every journey has its ups and downs, and staying persistent, especially when support is lacking, is one of the hardest challenges.

I am incredibly fortunate to have a supportive family and a strong faith in God, which I believe sets me apart. I make sure that God is the foundation of my life, trusting Him to guide my steps and open doors. Without His presence, I would be nothing.

My confidence, ability to tell a story through my work, and adaptability to different environments also distinguish me from others. Building connections and getting along with people make the job easier and more enjoyable. These qualities, combined with my faith and support system, fuel my passion and drive in both modeling and acting.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Some qualities and characteristics I consider crucial to my success are being coachable, grateful, and patient. These traits are essential for anyone striving to succeed in any aspect of life. The most important advice I can offer is that to be successful, you need a strong sense of identity.

Many people struggle with identity, trying to define themselves through their achievements and activities, but this is never lasting. I learned this lesson as an athlete growing up. Basketball became an idol in my life and a significant part of my identity. When I was hit by a car, it felt like a piece of me was gone. This experience taught me the dangers of tying your identity to temporary things.

Instead, find your identity in Jesus Christ. He is perfect and holy, the only one who can truly fulfill that missing piece in your life. Trusting in Him provides a stable and everlasting foundation, unlike anything temporary in this world.
