Today we’d like to introduce you to Deandra Wright.
Hi Deandra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my travel business about half a year ago. I was visiting family in my hometown, Texas, and I was exploring the city. I loved taking videos and photos of the activities I was participating in, and I thought, “Wow, I have to share this with people”. At that time TikTok was popular, and I was constantly on it, so it was the perfect platform to start with. At first, I didn’t know the potential of my page and passion for the business. I didn’t imagine the account growing into what it is today. Today, it has several followers that keep up to date with the series I post in Maryland and other locations. I post different activities to check out in Baltimore and restaurants. Furthermore, I’ve been told that a lot of people think Baltimore is a scary place because of the riots and that there’s nothing really to do here. However, I believe Baltimore is a beautiful city full of life and activities. There are numerous things to do downtown and around Maryland that my page continues to showcase. For this reason, I continue to post content that highlights all it has to offer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but it has been important for me to stay focused and consistent. Sometimes it can be discouraging to see your content get not as much engagement because of the algorithm on TikTok. However, I have to remind myself that I’m not only doing this for me. I’m doing this because it’s my passion and I enjoy it at heart. Overall, I’ve had great experiences thorough with learning how, when, and where to travel and post.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an artist/creative, my work is focused on videography and photography. I attend different events in Baltimore and try new/popular restaurants. Then, I give my feedback on these places for others to listen and enjoy. Therefore, videography is my concentration because I create high quality 30-second videos that provide listeners with almost everything they need to know about a location. Each post usually takes me about an hour to edit and publish with music, added captions, and hashtags. Therefore, I specialize in travel, food, and lifestyle vlogging. I’m mainly known for finding hidden gems to go to, which is why I am most proud of my DMV content. Since, Baltimore is overlooked as a travel location, what best sets me apart from others is my unique style of editing and providing information to my audience. My reviews are detailed and can provide important pricing and suggestions.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a mentor and networking is to put yourself out there and know what you are looking for. Once you know this, you can begin to establish meaningful connections with people who bring positivity to your brand and life. Authenticity is essential and will be rewarding in the end. That’s why what has worked for me is to not only make connections with people of all different backgrounds, but to also stay in touch with those individuals. For me, communication is key!
