Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For nearly two decades, I’ve worked in visual media helping businesses and individuals communicate their story in a way that feels real, strategic, and valuable. What started as a passion for creating has grown into Documented Video Productions, LLC—a media agency built around helping clients solve communication challenges through strong visual assets and ongoing creative support.
Over the years I realized the real value wasn’t simply producing a great video or delivering photos—it was becoming a reliable resource companies could call on as they grew. Whether that means helping showcase a new project, documenting milestones, creating marketing assets, highlighting team culture, or building trust with clients through authentic storytelling, our focus is on creating media that serves a purpose and keeps working long after the shoot is over.
Today, Documented Video Productions partners with businesses, organizations, and entrepreneurs who want more than one-off content. We help build a visual foundation that supports their brand, captures momentum, and clearly communicates their success over time. The goal has always been simple: be a trusted creative resource that helps people share what they’ve built and move their business forward with confidence.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—and I think that’s part of what shaped the business into what it is today. Like a lot of creative entrepreneurs, I started with a passion for making things and quickly learned that running a business requires much more than creativity. There were seasons of figuring out how to balance the creative side with sales, client relationships, operations, and building something sustainable.
One of the biggest challenges was shifting from thinking project-to-project to building long-term partnerships. Early on it was easy to focus on the next shoot or the next deadline, but over time I realized the bigger opportunity was becoming an ongoing resource for clients—understanding their goals, helping them communicate clearly, and consistently creating assets that support their growth. That mindset changed everything.
Like any business, there have also been challenges with changing technology, evolving marketing trends, and learning how to adapt while still delivering quality and staying true to the work. But every challenge helped sharpen the vision.
Today I’m grateful for the road because it taught me how to serve clients at a deeper level. The goal isn’t just creating content—it’s helping businesses and individuals showcase their progress, communicate their value, and keep building momentum with a trusted creative partner in their corner.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Documented Video Productions, we help businesses, organizations, and individuals communicate clearly and showcase what they’re building through strategic visual media. Our work is centered around creating assets that help clients strengthen their brand, document growth, build trust with their audience, and share their story in a way that feels authentic and impactful.
We specialize in becoming an ongoing creative resource rather than a one-time vendor. That can look different depending on the client—brand storytelling, project updates, testimonials, event coverage, marketing campaigns, company culture pieces, or building out a consistent library of media they can continue using across websites, social platforms, internal communications, and sales efforts. The goal is always the same: create visuals with purpose that support real business goals.
What I’m most proud of is the long-term relationships we’ve built. A lot of our best work comes from partnering with clients over time, getting to understand their business, and helping them capture milestones as they grow. There’s something meaningful about seeing a company evolve and knowing the media we created helped communicate that growth along the way.
What sets us apart is that we’re deeply invested in the people behind the brand. We care about understanding what our clients are trying to accomplish and building the right creative strategy around that. We bring experience, consistency, and a practical business mindset to every project, but we also stay flexible and collaborative. We’re there not just to create something that looks great in the moment—but to be a dependable resource clients can lean on as their needs evolve and their business continues moving forward.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely played a role—both good and bad—but I’ve found that a lot of “luck” comes from being consistent, showing up well, and staying ready when opportunities come around.
Some of the best opportunities in my business came from relationships and timing—meeting the right person at the right event, reconnecting with someone from years earlier, or one project naturally leading to another. I’m grateful for those moments because they’ve opened doors and led to long-term partnerships I may not have planned for.
At the same time, there have been setbacks too—projects falling through, economic shifts, changing technology, or times when things didn’t move as quickly as I hoped. Those moments can feel like bad luck in the moment, but a lot of them ended up pushing me to adapt, improve how I work, and think bigger about the business.
Over time I’ve learned that luck matters, but preparation and consistency matter even more. If you keep building relationships, keep doing strong work, and keep putting yourself in a position to serve people well, opportunities have a way of finding you. I’ve been fortunate in many ways, but I also believe being dependable and committed over the long run creates its own kind of luck.
