Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Jefferson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I graduated in 2017 with a degree in communications and zero idea what I wanted to do next. I had always felt a pull towards the beauty industry, specifically in esthetics, but felt I needed to get a job within my major (as many of us feel we must do). I got a job as a copywriter and did that until 2020 (first an architecture company and then a retirement community management company). I never felt fulfilled and didn’t see myself working a desk job the rest of my life. Once the pandemic hit and I was working from home, I spent a lot of time soul searching and figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. My time is precious and I was sick of wasting it at a job that made me feel unmotivated and unhappy.
That’s when I discovered permanent makeup. I did a ton of research, found a class nearby, and signed up for the October class. The first few days of the class were so engaging, challenging, and amazing. And then I had my first live model come in. And I was hooked. It took me about 5 hours to complete my first set of brows, and there was never a moment where I thought, “I can’t wait for this to be over.”
I spent the next six months working full-time at my copywriting job while building up my permanent makeup business. I worked most weeknights and weekends until I finally came to the realization that I was losing money by still working at my 9-5. So, I made the necessary leap, quit my job, and started my business full-time in April. I am so grateful for where I am now and how much I have grown in the past year. And there are so many exciting things to come!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely had its ups and downs. When I first started, I felt like my business grew extremely fast. That’s why I felt I could quit my job without question. But once I quit, I saw a major dip in new clients. I, of course, freaked out for a second but then realized I just needed to be patient, keep working hard, and understand that every small business has times like these. I changed my strategy, started working with a business coach, and have quickly seen things turn back around.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a permanent makeup artist specializing in micro shading for eyebrows! I also do lash lifts and tints. I’m most proud of how much I have improved as an artist over the past nine months. I continue to further my education and practice my skill set to ensure that with each new client, I get better and better. What sets me apart is how quickly I was able to create a new business and bring in clients who recognize my great work. Everyone who comes in says that when they look at my work, they see how consistent I am, which to me means so much because I can be extremely hard on myself and nitpick every little detail!!
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to open up a storefront!! I currently work out of my parent’s house, which has been a great place to start and grow my client list, but it is time for a change. I can’t disclose too much about the plans as they are still in the works, but it’s going to be in an awesome location!!
