Check Out Brad Scott’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Scott.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working at OBGC in the spring of 2016. I was looking to make a career change and saw an advertisement looking for a sports manager at the Olney Boys and Girls Club. I was very familiar with the club as both of my kids played sports for the organization and I was a volunteer coach and commissioner at the club. I was very interested in combining my love of sports, as well as my interest in serving the community, and working in a more fulfilling environment. Today, I am proud to be the Executive Director of the organization.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As in any job and profession there will always be challenges and opportunities to navigate through, youth sports can be a tough business and there are times we have had to navigate through issues with players, parents, and coaches. We have had challenges with specific sports and programming and we have had to navigate challenges that come with growth and space constraints. Covid was an especially challenging time as sports were shut down for a significant period of time and we have a large facility that needed continued maintenance and a small staff that we needed to ensure we could continue to pay.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Olney Boys and Girls Club (OBGC) is a non-profit sports organization in Olney, Maryland, dedicated to providing children with safe after-school and summer sports programs. In 2021, post covid the previous Executive Director resigned which opened up an opportunity for me to not only manage the sports, but to lead all aspects of the organization. This afforded me many more opportunities to improve the park, add additional programming, and to put in place an opportunity for long term projects that will greatly benefit our kids and community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
In general I believe for the most part luck is when hard work meets preparation. I also believe that everything happens for a reason. I am thankful to be in a job and role I absolutely love and that I am fortunate enough to work with a fantastic group of people and that I have the opportunity to impact my community in a meaningful way
