Check Out Angelica Boleta’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Boleta.

Angelica , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Alright! I’m not a writerβ€”and English isn’t my first languageβ€”so thanks for bearing with me! πŸ˜„

I’ve always been a creative person, but when it came time to choose a career path, the circumstances weren’t exactly ideal. So, long story short, I ended up going to university twice, got married, and had a child before finally giving myself the chance to explore my artistic side.

I’m self-taught and started out painting with acrylics, but I’ve found that watercolor suits my personality much better. It is a straight-forward, stress-free kind of medium, that i easily can bring with me wherever I go. Which is great, because I love painting outside.

About a year ago, Neada Onufrychuk came across my work online and asked if I’d be interested in teaching at a new space she was starting. I had just begun organizing some sip-and-paint, but I said yesβ€”and here I am a year later celebrating my first year in the business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have to say, it’s been a surprisingly smooth journey. Partly because I didn’t have many expectations going in, and partly because I met truly wonderful people along the way β€” they made everything feel a lot easier.

Even though I am an introvert, the connections I made are one of the best things ever happened to me..

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a watercolor artist and instructor, and I suppose I’m best known for my nature focused workshops around Northern Virginia.

What I’m most proud of is how people feel after taking my classes β€” the sense of accomplishment they have when they create something they never thought they could. Or when someone experience the sense of flow for the first time. I am proud to bring a moment of joy to peoples life.

I believe I’m a good teacher, able to break down the rules in a way that makes the painting process easy to understand.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in the countryside of Brazil. As a child, I was extremely shy and fearful of almost everything.

Pursuing a creative career now feels like a way of honoring my inner child. Growing up as an only child, I constantly relied on my imagination to keep me company. Drawing and painting were my favorite activitiesβ€”they were my escape and my joy.
