Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisia Amor.
Hi Alisia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair when I was a kid.
Naturally, it became my career. I earned my first cosmetology license in Pennsylvania. From there, I obtained my NY license and my Nevada license as well. I started out in a salon and one year, I discovered editorial hairstyling. I haven’t looked back since. I’m now a full-time editorial hairstylist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the transition from behind the chair, to editorial is certainly an adjustment.
In a salon setting, you have daily tasks, clients, etc. Editorial work is very different.
You can work multiple days, for one project. You can also have gaps between projects. You just have to be patient and not expect it to be the same as working in a salon setting.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I am the Creative Director of Hairstyling for REVO Magazine located in Baltimore. I also create custom looks for photo shoots and runway shows such as Philly Fashion Week, Dreamwalk Fashion Show, etc. I do private styling as well as create custom wigs for hair loss and cancer clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe luck is why I am where I am today. Hard work, support from my family, and passion for my career have brought me here, and I’m very grateful.
