Today we’d like to introduce you to AITA.
Hi AITA, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
AITA started from an Instagram story. Josh Bosse (drummer) posted a video drumming to Paramore’s “Let the Flames Begin,” and Patricia Bryan Ramón (our lead singer) jokingly messaged, “Let’s start a band.” She didn’t know Josh had been trying to start one for months. They had met once before at a birthday party and immediately hit it off, but lost touch until that moment reignited the spark.
They quickly linked up and began searching for like-minded musicians. By the end of that September, they found Elijah “Eli” Busse (lead guitar), and later brought on Justin Kuhl (bass), solidifying the current lineup.
We originally called ourselves Lollipunx — but before recording our debut album, we knew we wanted a name that reflected our shared vision. After entertaining over 500 name ideas, we landed on AITA — only later realizing it shared a name with a well-known Reddit thread (credit to Justin for the unintentional deep cut).
Some big milestones: our second-ever show was opening for Fitz and the Tantrums at Loyola Palooza after winning Battle of the Bands, and in January 2025 we released our debut 13-song album, Promises. We’re now touring and working on our second album, aiming to take AITA to a national audience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not smooth — but that’s part of what’s made it so rewarding.
One of the biggest challenges early on was finding bandmates who weren’t just talented, but available and truly committed. Life happens — people’s situations change — and we had several weeks (maybe months) of heavy transitions. It made us appreciate the people who stuck it out and really believed in the project, not just the idea of it.
Money’s also been a constant challenge. None of us come from wealth or industry connections — we’ve been building AITA from the ground up while holding full-time jobs and managing everyday responsibilities. It’s not easy, and probably not for anyone who isn’t a little stir-crazy like us. But we all seem to thrive in the chaos.
We haven’t had much personal conflict, but figuring out our identity — what we stand for, how we want to present ourselves, our voice, our tone — that’s been an ongoing process. Luckily, we share a lot of core values, and that’s helped us grow in a unified direction even when we come from different musical backgrounds.
Low points? Every time a band member left. It always stung — not because we thought AITA was over, but because it disrupted momentum and morale. Sometimes it felt like it came out of nowhere, and we had to pause plans or rework songs we were excited about. But those moments taught us a lot. We’ve become more intentional about who we let into this process — because it takes a lot more than just talent. It takes staying power.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At our core, AITA is a pop-punk band with a heart — driven by a shared commitment to authenticity, emotional connection, and building community. Our sound draws from early punk’s raw energy and social awareness, but with catchy pop sensibilities and moments of humor and irony. We’re inspired by bands like blink-182 for their punch and attitude, Paramore for their powerhouse vocals and vulnerable lyrics, The Wonder Years for their dynamic storytelling, and Taking Back Sunday for their energy and emotion.
What sets us apart is our approach to the scene — not just as performers, but as collaborators. We’re deeply committed to professionalism and to building bridges with venues, promoters, and especially other artists. We want to create a space where people feel seen and heard, and where music is a tool for collective healing and celebration.
Our live shows are intentionally raw but refined — we care deeply about performance, but we also don’t hide behind polish. We show up human. We know people are spending their time, money, and energy to be with us, and we never take that lightly.
We’re incredibly proud of our debut album Promises (January 2025). It reflects our range as musicians and our growth as a band. Songs like The Ocean hit that sweet spot of energy and vulnerability. Beyond Summer started as something totally different and turned into one of our favorites in a single night. Emergency Contact was a lyric and structural puzzle we kept coming back to until we finally cracked it. And Goodbye pushed us technically and emotionally, with a signature time change that challenged us as a band and paid off. Tracks like Write It Out and If Anyone Cares slow things down and spotlight Patricia’s vocals and lyrical depth, while Headlights dives deep into meaning, and Beyond Summer gives space to just let loose.
The album is a showcase of who we are — not just one thing, but a palette of emotion, power, and intention. It’s our introduction to the world, and we’re proud of every note
What are your plans for the future?
We’re currently in the writing stage for our next album, so the immediate goal is to get that done and out the door! But further out? We’re hoping to get some tour dates lined up with some bigger bands and really get our music out there for everyone to experience. AITA isn’t about small time.
