Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail C. Johnson.

Abigail C. Johnson

Abigail C., we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey is nothing short of miraculous, and I believe every step has been guided by God’s grace. When I was two years old, I had two life-saving surgeries within 24 hours to remove a tumor from my neck. It was a defining moment—not just for me but for my family. We were homeless and battling severe poverty at the time. Yet, through it all, my parents showed me the power of faith, resilience, and creativity.

Growing up as one of eight children, I learned early on how to dream big despite challenges. My parents are the visionaries behind Testimony Publishers, LLC.®, our family-owned publishing company that has transformed countless lives. Watching them build it, from the ground up, inspired me to build something using my voice as a storyteller and artist.

At 16, I’ve had the privilege to author, co-author and illustrate several books, all reaching “International Amazon Bestseller” status. “Hip Hop Hair” and “Hip Hop Music” (written and illustrated with my siblings), and my first solo children’s book, “The Amazing Alphabet,” all reflect my love for inspiring young readers and showing them that creativity has no limits. I think that has helped our work receive “Best Children’s Rap Book” and “Best Children’s Music Book” awards.

I’m also a key member of JFAM JOHNSON®, my siblings and my brand. I’ve been able to blend my love for art, storytelling, fashion, and empowerment into the unique creations we produce. Whether it’s illustrating vibrant characters or sharing my story on stages like the R.I.S.E. Virtual Summit as a Teen Entrepreneur Keynote Speaker, I aim to uplift others—especially young people—by showing them that no obstacle is too great to overcome.I was even able to share the virtual stage with icons like Kierra “KiKi” Sheard-Kelly and Dr. Boyce Watkins.

Today, I stand as a testament to what faith, family, and perseverance can achieve. My story is still unfolding, but I’m grateful for every chapter that’s brought me here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Where do I begin? Overcoming life-threatening surgeries as a toddler was just the beginning of the challenges I’ve faced. My family and I experienced significant financial struggles when I was younger. I remember hearing stories of how my parents had to make impossible decisions just to keep us going. I thought most things were perfect in my life until I was a little older and discovered that you’re supposed to have a nutritious meal everyday and that the lights are supposed to turn on when you flip the switch. My parents used to sit us all around the candlelight and we’d tell stories and share our dreams. Things, of course, are much, much better now but those experiences during the “lean times,” helped shape who I am today. They’ve taught me to value life, love your family no matter your situation, and approach every opportunity with gratitude.

Being an award-winning, teen author and illustrator also comes with its own set of challenges. I’ve never attended traditional school so I can get real creative when balancing my own homeschool schedule, chores, and family life. Even finding time to have fun with family and friends can be tough, sometimes, because I have responsibilities to my readers, to my artwork clients, and to myself. There are moments when self-doubt creeps in and I wonder if my voice and my art are good enough. But I remember that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made,” and that means God didn’t make a mistake on me. So, I am enough; “more than a conqueror.” When times get tough, I’ve learned to lean on my faith, my family, and the lessons my parents taught me about perseverance.

Despite the hardships, every struggle has been a stepping stone. Those tough moments not only fueled my creativity but also gave me a deeper appreciation for storytelling and its power to uplift others. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every twist and turn because it’s made me who I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work centers on using art and storytelling to ignite creativity and learning in young minds. I love vibrant, colorful pieces and equally vibrant and colorful stories. I love bold lines and colors that capture young people’s attention while empowering them to embrace their potential. My bestselling book, “The Amazing Alphabet,” has been a game-changer—parents and teachers rave about how it makes learning the alphabet exciting and accessible. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that something I’ve created is helping children develop a love for reading and learning.

Recently, I’ve expanded my artistic reach by launching a streamlined art gallery website, www.eightworksofart.com. This platform showcases my latest creations and allows visitors to experience my artwork in a more personal and interactive way. From selecting the medium clients want their artwork on, to selecting the size and style of the piece, this site offers greater customization of each piece.

What I’m most proud of is how my art and stories are making a real difference. Whether it’s through the pages of my childrens books, or the connections I’ve made with young people, educators and families, I love seeing my work bring joy and inspiration to others.

What sets me apart is my journey and my perspective. As a 16-year-old author, illustrator, and entrepreneur, I bring fresh, youthful energy to my art. My creative process is deeply personal—rooted in my own story of overcoming challenges, growing up in a family that values faith and entrepreneurship, and striving to make a meaningful impact. Through my artwork, books, and art website, I’m not just creating—I’m sharing a piece of my heart with the world.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is living out my life’s purpose in everything I do. Whether I’m creating meaningful stories, clothing, or art, I believe God wants me to use my gifts to inspire others. Whether it’s through my art, my books, or sharing my journey, my purpose is to uplift and encourage people—especially young minds—to see their beauty and potential.

Family is also at the heart of everything I do. Growing up in a big family, I’ve learned the value of love, support, and perseverance. My parents’ sacrifices and the strength of my siblings remind me every day of how important it is to stay grounded and grateful. They’ve taught me that our stories—our success and failures—have the power to impact lives, and that’s a responsibility I take seriously. Just seeing my parents serve others, even when they had very little, and fight to build businesses that serve people all over the world, inspired me to work to do the same.

I’m passionate about bringing joy, creativity, and hope into the world. My work isn’t just about creating art or writing books or styling new fits😉, it’s about making a difference the way God wants me to. I want every child who reads my books or sees my illustrations and artwork to feel seen, valued, and inspired.

Why does this matter to me? Because I know what it’s like to face challenges at a young age. Surviving life-threatening surgeries taught me to cherish life and the opportunities I’ve been given. If my voice, my words, and my art can spark even a little light into someone’s life, then I know I’m living out my purpose.
