Check Out Abbey Dufoe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Dufoe

Hi Abbey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to Baltimore in December of 2021 and immediately tried somewhere to play ice hockey. Since COVID was still causing some restrictions, I just called the 2021-2022 season a wash and started looking for ice in the summer of 2022.

I found a summer league in Laurel at the Gardens Ice House, where I met a ton of women just as obsessed with hockey as I am! I started playing rec league, then tournaments, then joined a club team based in the the DC area. After playing with them for two seasons, I realized that I wanted to start a Baltimore team so we could all carpool, host events, and hang out together in the city outside of just playing games together.

Earlier this year, I grabbed a few of my friends who live in the city and they were happy to join a team if I started one – so the Charm City Crush was born! We are a C level women’s ice hockey team established in 2024 in Baltimore City that plays in the MAWHL league.

I’ve been playing hockey for 18 years, and I love the sense of community it brings. I’m happy to bring a women’s C team back to Baltimore!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a pretty smooth road so far: hockey players are a dedicated bunch. The hardest part about starting an organized sport is getting all our ducks in a row with uniforms, ice time, and scheduling. We are working through all of that now before our season start in October.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a sports club, incorporated in Baltimore City. We are extremely proud of our name (Charm City Crush), which incorporates the love we have for Baltimore (Charm City) and the name of a famous drink from around here (Crush).

Our colors are purple, orange, black, white, and gray, which pull from iconic sports teams in the city as well as make us stand out in our league. Our main logo is “CRUSH” in the middle of a squeezed orange, while our shoulder patches on our jersey boast a city of Baltimore crest, where we’re proud to represent!

What are your plans for the future?
We are just getting started! Incorporation of the team happened a couple of months ago when we were accepted into our league, and now we are spending the summer ordering jerseys, playing in a couple of tournaments, building the roster, and buying ice time for the fall.

We are looking forward to playing our first games in October with the orange on our chests!
