Breona shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Breona, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity is the most important thing to me when it comes to my nail journey because maintaining integrity builds trust with my clients, ensures their health and safety, and reflects my commitment to professionalism and my overall passion. I take pride in desiring to provide honest, high-quality services while following proper sanitation and ethical standards in my future nail suite. Integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, and that’s the foundation for long lasting client relationships and a respected reputation in the nail industry.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Breona but most people know me as Bre with my brand being @nailsbybre.b. I am a licensed/certified medical nail technician here in Baltimore, MD and I am passionate about nail health and creative nail art. I am currently working on growing my creative nail art skills while pursuing my education to become a Podiatrist.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I believe that being a home based nail technician has served its purpose for me and must now be released. Servicing from home again is a debatable challenge I’ve been facing as my home is my safe haven and not a place where I desire to perform work or connect with strangers. I decided to stop servicing from home due to not having the resources here I need to perform quality services for my clients and comfortable services for myself. Though I do service close friends and family members from home here and there, I don’t find passion in performing monetary services in my home where I solely desire peace. I am grateful for the time I spent as a home based nail technician as I generated over $500 in nails service sales in September of 2020 which was a huge goal of mine. Im also grateful for the friends and clients who did come and support me while I was home based as a beginner self taught nail technician. Last, I am also very grateful for the people who continue to reach out to me for nail services as it keeps me motivated to keep going. As I release this chapter of my nail journey servicing from home, I hope to create space for new blessings to arise in the future for me and my nail business.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me to always maintain faith during my life journey. Suffering taught me to have faith that with hard trials come beautiful testimonies and that maintaining faith will help me achieve my life goals, pursue my passions and walk in my life’s purpose.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
No matter how long it takes I am committed to opening and operating my own nail suite one day. I desire to create a space where I can service people in need of quality nail services while connecting and growing relationships with my future clients. I desire to create a space where I can be more than just a nail technician, but an educator, a confidant, a therapist and a friend to all my clients. This dream project solely consists of me having a comfortable solo space (with a window) to perform nail services while having a fully functional and water based pedicure chair to perform my favorite service (pedicures). This is something that I cannot wait to accomplish as I’ve always dreamed of having a small but creative nail space that brings me comfort, joy and peace during my growing nail journey. Though I face the challenge of struggling to financially afford both an apartment and a nail suite, i’m committed to bringing my vision to life during my 30’s by having faith that one day, with hard work and prayers, all great things will happen for me and my nail business.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not pursuing my dreams of becoming a Podiatrist (DPM) if it were ever something I decided to give up on. It is a journey where I know the road will be very long, very tiring and very hard; but I have faith that pursuing this dream will help me make a difference in the world in various ways one day. I also believe that pursuing my doctorate in podiatric medicine will help me grow as a woman, ultimately changing and shaping my future life as a mother, a nail technician and a healthcare professional I would regret not pushing myself to reach, see and utilize my full potential especially in a male-dominated field that I am passionate about.
