Brandon Bennett of East Baltimore on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Brandon Bennett and have shared our conversation below.

Brandon , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My 3 year old son most definitely brings me joy all the time. This kid is hilarious and extremely intelligent. Anytime the

weight of work or responsibility shows itself, I can always look at his picture, watch videos of him or just wait til he

greets me at the door when coming home from work. He sure knows how to make me forget whatever trials I may be facing

that day. Fatherhood is truly a joy for me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey family my name is Brandon Bennett, I’m a husband of 13 years and a father to 4 (2boy & 2 girls). During the day I’m a House

Manager for recovering substance abusers at Transformation Station located in Edmondson Village (West Baltimore). This job is

totally aligned with the call on my life to be a conduit of freedom for those that are stuck in cycles of bondage. After my own

journey of transformation, I’ve dedicated my life to empowering others to find identity, purpose, and freedom in

Christ. I serve at Abba’s House in Dundalk, Md as an Elder/Evangelist under the leadership of Dr. Jonathan and Pastor Raequael

Patterson where I’ve been serving for 13 years. Through Abba’s House and community outreach initiatives like the School of

Evangelism & our monthly Food Pantry; I alongside other leaders are focused on developing sons into mature disciples who

impact their communities with truth & love.

By the grace of God I’ve been able to establish Bennett Legacies LLC, an umbrella of faith-based brands including Freedom

Coaching, Freedom Culture Apparel, Bennett Books and Bennett Music. My passion is empowering men to break free from

toxic behaviors and spiritual bondage through biblical principles and transparent storytelling. I am a two time author (Prison

Break: Your Freedom Is a Confession Away & Prison Break II: Avoiding The Revolving Door). I am currently working on another

project titled “Who Are You?” I currently study at Liberty University seeking to achieve my Bachelors in Religion/Evangelism.

Everything I do under the grace of God whether through writing, coaching, or creative expression is about building legacies of

freedom that last for generations.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
When I was unsure of who I truly am my Pastor Dr. Jonathan Patterson spoke into my destiny which is steadily unfolding. In

those times when I was living contrary to the design God created me to be he consistently maintained to empower

and speak life into my spirit, never condemning me but always up lifting. He is the voice of a Father in my life and continues

to be a voice that is opening my eyes to who I truly am. I am forever grateful for him and his dedication to my personal and

spiritual development.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Wow this is such a great question! While I have been wounded in many areas in my life the one that stood out the most

and hurt me was the wound of rejection. This wound kept me bound, isolated, afraid to move forward in my destiny. It wasn’t

until 2018 when I was spoken to prophetically from my pastor that I was to write a book that would become the pinnacle of my ministry. Once I started to write my first book I began experiencing true freedom and healing from this wound. My

ability to confess not only my shortcomings and speak about how rejection affected me became the catalyst to my inner healing and freedom. I

struggled with shame and guilt long before this, but when I started to write my story and declare the truth of Gods Word those layers began to fall off gradually.

Confession and vulnerability became my secret weapon! Struggling with feelings of rejection which led to

alcohol/substance abuse and issues with sexual lust and pornography; my weapon of confession became the conquering

tool to overcome these strongholds. Daily I have to surrender my will in exchange for the will of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what I consider as my maintenance package for walking in a progressive state of healing and freedom.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is authenticity. In everything I do whether it’s ministry, business, or mentoring, I believe in

being real, transparent, and Spirit-led. Authenticity creates trust, and trust opens the door for transformation. I never want to

build something that looks good on the outside but lacks the presence of God on the inside. So I protect a culture where

people can be honest about their struggles, grow in grace, and experience the freedom that comes from truth.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I helped them find freedom. That through my life, they saw the love of the Father and learned that no

matter how broken their past was, God could still redeem it. I want my story to be remembered as one of transformation, a

man who turned his pain into purpose, who lived transparently, loved deeply, and led others to Jesus. If people can say their

lives were tremendously impacted because I pointed them back to God, then I think I’ve done my job.
