An Inspired Chat with Tiffany Lady T of Baltimore

We recently had the chance to connect with Tiffany Lady T and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Tiffany, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
My dream of being on stage & entertaining people is coming true, and playing out right before my eyes. At this point I’m moving into a new era of my life that I like to call, “Dream Big, Doubt Less.” If I can dream it then I can do it. If doubts arises then I push through it. No more wasting time. Also, I’ve been doing more public speaking events lately. More people want me to share my story at their events. Which I thought I could avoid it for a while, because I felt like that isn’t really my thing. I’m a comedian & TV Host so I’m used to bringing people joy through laughter, not public speaking. Essentially, as a comedian I thought I could tell a few jokes on-stage and get a few laughs, hand the mic back and then leave the event. But what is my message? What lasting effect do I have on a room full of people who are movers &shakers? Also, I can now add the term “Keynote Speaker” to my resume & biography. However, the weight of the title “Keynote Speaker” is heavy, but it’s also a test of will and determination. It’s always nice to have your face and name on a flier. But what message will you bring to the hundreds or thousands of people you are speaking to? My goal is to not just agree to speak at events but make an impact when I’m speaking on their stages. You’ll always remember a good laugh but a message of worth, now that you’ll hold onto for life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lady T & my brand is MyFairLadyT & my social media handles are @myfairladyt

I am an Emmy Nominated TV Host, Award-winning journalist, Comedian, Actress & Model. I’m currently in several films and working on more projects. I’ve been featured on the front cover of Queen Size Magazine. I host a lifestyle show in Baltimore, Maryland called BMore Lifestyle on FOX45. I’m also a podcast host and content creator.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’m the type of person who will hype you up when you walk through the front door at work in the morning and make you feel good about yourself. I’m the type of person who will laugh if you laugh or cry when you cry and let you know your feelings are valid. I’m the type of person who runs to hug you because I can tell you need some love today. I’m the type of person who will pick up on your emotions and how you’re feeling. I just want to uplift the spirits of people around me. But I had a terrible habit of wearing my heart on my sleeve. I believe it’s a great trait to have but not very helpful if I wanted to advance in my career. It’s when you react to situations based on your emotion but not really thinking about the bigger picture. I realized that his is not a great trait to have in the entertainment industry. You get offended easily and your anxiety is high. People take advantage of your kindness. You start to fell resentment. It hinders your ability to mature and grow from situations. Sometimes it causes you to be so disappointed in other people’s actions, Even though you have no control over that. You give so much of yourself and pour into others but there’s no one pouring back into you. So unfortunately the part of me that I love the most, “wearing my heart on my sleeve” is what I needed to release. I can still cheer others on and still have enough energy for myself at the end of the day. It’s something I’ve been working on for quite a few years now and trust me, it’s more difficult than it looks. It pops out on occasion and surprises me from time to time. But I’m a changemaker who can acknowledge it’s an issue and adjust to this new perspective on life.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Recently, I was the Keynote Speaker at my alma mater Bowie State University’s Founders Day Convocation back in April. I thought I would be speaking in front of a few students but it turned out to be a whole auditorium with 3 balconies full of students, faculty and family members. Hundreds were in attendance and I had to sit next to the President of the University while wearing regalia. But I left my speech on the printer at my job the day before the event. I knew the gist of what I wanted to say but the fear of not having the paper near me to refer back to was horrific. Anyways, when it was my turn to speak, it was time to put up or shut up My message to the students & attendees was “Remain Resilient” in this journey called life. I spoke about the history of the University and how resilience is in our DNA as Bowie State University students & alumni. But I also told the story of how I changed my major when I attended BSU. I went from a Law major to Broadcast Journalism major in a matter of 24 hours because of a counselor who I believe was an angel sent from heaven. I really wanted to be a radio host but my mom and dad wanted me to be a lawyer. Despite their disapproval, I remained resilient on the path towards my destiny. My counselor helped me see that I would be the one who has to live with my career choice. Her wig never did quite sit right but she was wise nonetheless. I received a standing ovation and that was epic. But it was the students and adults who came up to me afterwards saying they struggled with their major as well and had to pivot too. That let me know my message was heard and received by the audience. They connected with my story. It resonated with them and that meant the world to me. Also, I had to do my entire speech from memory….

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say the public version of myself is definitely the real me & that sets me apart from others in the entertainment industry. I don’t need to put up a front for people because my genuine self is already appealing. My sense of humor, gift of gab and my wit are a treasure. But I portray myself as a woman of worth. Also, I’m a people person. So what you see is what you get and I’m known for telling it like it is.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Currently I’m doing what I was born to do and I love it. My personality screams TV Host & Comedian actually. But back in college I was definitely doing what I was “told to do.” My parents said I was going to be a lawyer. Which was actually my fault. I think at one point I told them I wanted to become a Judge when I was like 8 years old. But people change and I really wanted my parents to understand that. But that took time. Hence why I said I needed to remain resilient through that process. Eventually they came around. It took like 4 or 5 years but eventually my parents had faith in my career choice. I just had to work hard at achieving my goals and let God take the wheel.
