An Inspired Chat with SHARON MOORE of Woodlawn

We recently had the chance to connect with SHARON MOORE and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning SHARON, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
If I were an outsider considering a hire, I would definitely choose A Vision from Shaye. One of the biggest compliments we receive from our clients is our attentiveness to their guests during events, as well as our exceptional customer service. We truly listen to what our clients want for their events. It’s not just about following trends; it’s about showcasing our clients’ personalities or the themes they desire. This can be accomplished through their stationery, decor, food, or a combination of all these elements and more.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Sharon Moore, the owner of A Vision from Shaye Event Planning Boutique. We are a full-service event planning and design company based in Baltimore. We handle all types of social and corporate events, specializing in intimate gatherings.

With over ten years in business, I have deep roots in the industry. My father, the late John E. Bond, was the owner of the well-known and renowned Bond’s Catering Service. He catered many events in the Baltimore metropolitan area from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, working alongside many of Baltimore’s elite event professionals.

My passion for event planning ignited while coordinating and designing my wedding from my first marriage. I planned every detail myself, from creating the color palette and design to selecting the menu, invitations, cake, and more. Many people didn’t initially understand my vision, but when everything came together, we received numerous compliments. Remarkably, all of this was accomplished in less than a year, with about 250 guests in attendance.

After my marriage ended, I returned to school to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Hospitality Management and Tourism. After graduating from Strayer University, I spent a year conducting extensive research and interviews before officially opening my business in 2010.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I would say that I learned the most about work from my parents. They both had a strong work ethic and took pride in what they did. My father was a caterer, and my mother was a cosmetologist and a business manager. When they engaged in their work, they truly gave it their all. They believed that their work reflected who they were, and this belief extended to how they conducted themselves and influenced our home life as well.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The most significant wound in my life has been the death of both of my parents. Like many people, I believed that my parents would live forever, and when they passed away, it created a wound that never truly healed. However, I learned to live with it. Thanks to the morals, values, and belief in God that they instilled in my brother and me, I understood that giving up was not an option, no matter what challenges I faced. I come from a remarkable lineage of accomplished entrepreneurs who have paved the way for me and other family members to dream big and achieve success.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I attribute my blessings to God, my family, and my need to create. Everything I have experienced and obtained is because of Him. God told me to trust Him when I started my business, and He has supported me every step of the way. There have been many moments when I considered closing my shop, but He had different plans for me.

My family is the three of the four chambers of my heart. They are my soft spots; sometimes they drive me a little crazy, but I cannot imagine my life without them. I love them beyond words.

As an artist, creating is essential to who I am. Designing artwork, centerpieces, or planning events for my clients allows me to express myself authentically. It helps me destress, immerse myself in my thoughts, and listen to God when He speaks to me. Ultimately, my creations bring beauty to others. It is truly a blessing to be a blessing.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
My purpose in life is to serve others by producing events that create lasting memories.
