We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mars terra. Check out our conversation below.
Mars, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
No one sees the work I put in to put the pieces of myself back together, but that doesn’t make it any less important to me. I’m proud that despite everything I’ve been through, I keep laboring to put myself back together.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mars and I am a part-time model, part-time college student, and full-time crocheter. My focus is on mixing fashion with feelings to tell my stories. I am very open about my mental health struggles, whether it is just a story post saying how I’m doing, or a regular post delving deeper into whatever issue I’m currently facing or explaining misunderstood conditions to try and combat the stigma surrounding them. At my core, I’m just someone who is honest on the internet. That’s my brand.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before it was quite literally beat out of me, I was a very outgoing individual. I was the kind of kid who would’ve tried to befriend the whole world, were it possible. You could catch me memorizing jokes from my Spongebob joke book, in an attempt to make everyone around me laugh and smile.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There are times where I fully have given up and attempted to “delete myself.” It gets tiring fighting the same battles over and over, with illnesses that are incurable. Especially when the only reason you’re even fighting in the first place is because other people want you to, or it’s the “right thing to do.”
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Hasan Piker! Despite coming from an affluent background and being incredibly wealthy now, he still advocates for policy and rhetoric aimed at bettering everyone’s lives, not just the mega-rich. He genuinely practices what he preaches (joining protests, raising money for good causes, etc.)
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I very rarely receive praise for doing my best haha, so yeah, I don’t think this would be a problem.
