An Inspired Chat with Bro. Calvin D. Tucker Jr. of Catonsville County

Bro. Calvin D. Tucker Jr. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Bro. Calvin D., really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would definitely hire me. When I look at the Passion, Drive, Attention to Detail, Body of Work, Years of non-stop pursuit 0f God’s Will for my life, there’s no question that I am what I would expect from anyone that I would be looking to hire.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an “Entertainment Specialist”. This means that I work in many different fields of entertainment; from Acting and Modeling, to Promoting my music on Tour. Fashion, Film, Theatre, Faith, Music, Fitness are the areas of my life, calling and purpose that take up residence in my soul. Being a SAG-AFTRA Actor has blessed me to work on “Wonder Woman-1984” and many other projects. My background is in Theatre and Musical Theatre; from playing the role of “Marty” in Dreamgirls by Artscentric Theatre; to playing “John The Baptist” in Godspell by Lumina Theatre and tons more. As a Published/Award-Winning Model; I have walked for tons of Fashion Weeks on the East Coast including Latin Fashion Week, Philly Mens Style Week, Baltimore Fashion Week, and more. I have featured in Magazines and other publications. One of the Model Awards that won included a competition that led to a photo of me placed in an art exhibit at the Painted Bride Gallery in Philadelphia. As an Award-Winning Recording Artist, I have touched the stages of the greats. I have performed in tribute to Roxanne Shante and Mc Sha-Rock, won a Stellar Award on “The Youth For Christ” The Struggle is Over album and other solo awards for singer/song-writer.

*My other Calling is Teaching: I am a Theology Teacher at a school in Baltimore City and I love it. I also serve as a Student Life Counselor at a boarding school in Baltimore City on the street that I grew up on.

*My first calling is the Preaching Ministry; I am a Preacher and Praise and Worship Leader serving wherever I am called.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I use to believe that I would grow to be 6 feet tall lol. I told my dad all the time that I would be that height and he would laugh and tell me that’s not going to happen. I will say though, I still grew to be an inch or two taller than my dad before he passed, so I wasn’t all the way wrong lol.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
I launched a male entertainment mentoring conglomerate called “The Male Model REACH Movement”, where I had actual mentees who where signed to me; mainly in the Modeling industry and there were others who were a part of the movement who shared insight and wisdom. The boys and men in this group listened to my guidance as we collaborated to make our dreams come true. It was always a blessing to watch them put into action; things that I taught or suggested to them. The goal was to teach professionalism, casting/show etiquette as well as overall business-minded behavior.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I love this question, because so many people are tricked into believing that you can not be authentically who you are in public for a wide variety of reasons such as; being judged or laughed at, not fitting in and others, but all the reasons basically revolve around other people’s opinions. I was raised in to be a strong-minded individual with pride and integrity. When I step out in public, I am exactly who I am in private; Goofy at times, Super calm at times, Adventurous, Spontaneous, Creative, Passionate, Confident, Driven, Curious and more. I believe that it takes too much energy and stress trying to be what others want you to be or who you might assume others want you to be. My questions are “Who does God say I am?”, “Who do I know I am?”.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am the definition of doing what you were born to do. I was born for the Spotlight and the Stage; however many don’t believe that I get as much joy from working behind the scenes as I do being the star, but I really do. We as human beings are so complex and multidimensional. I believe in testing all my limits as much as I can. I love being scared when attempting to accomplish or learn something. Those moments allow me to become greater and stronger.

Releasing my New Single “UnDoOver?” Which features Scola Dinero from Druhill and Rell formerly of Roc-A-Fella Records was a major accomplishment. This “Break-Up Song” is an introspective take on past relationships, NOT a Bashing song lol.
