We recently had the chance to connect with Alina Sharipova and have shared our conversation below.
Alina, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
That we don’t have all the answers in this life. That we all have weaknesses, that we are imperfect. That we’ve lost trust in each other, and that we sometimes feel lonely.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the owner of MyDance DC Studio – a school of professional DanceSport Ballroom and Latin.
The most inspiring part of my work is watching how dancing transforms children’s lives — bringing them joy, passion, and a sense of purpose. I see that my young students don’t treat our classes as just a fun hobby; instead, dance becomes their identity and lifestyle. They dance everywhere — at the grocery store, on vacation, even at school. Parents often share these moments with me through videos! 😊
Our Eastern European approach helps us achieve strong results because it emphasizes discipline and a serious attitude. I’m able to recognize each child’s potential early on, guide them, help them develop their talent, and build lasting confidence.
We participate in many competitions and showcases, giving students opportunities to shine, grow, and thrive.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My first dance instructor used to say, “Don’t dream of it — work for it.” That has become my motto in life. Hard work and consistency are the key.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
There was a time when I noticed that some dance competitions were corrupted, and it felt like all my hard work and preparation had been a “waste.” But eventually, I realized it was never truly wasted — because the skills I gained stayed with me. I kept working on myself and focused on what I was truly passionate about. And it paid off: my studio is growing and thriving. I know now that I’m on the right path.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
To stay authentic and not copy idols.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Stop worrying about unnecessary things — like what people think of you — and stop trying to meet everyone’s expectations.
