We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tammi Rogers. Check out our conversation below.
Tammi, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I realized I have been called to help build the new DMV Hollywood community in order to spotlight the brilliantly wonderful entertainment that is often overlooked in the DMV area. What is the DMV? The D.C./Maryland/Virginia (DMV) area, which is a commonly used term for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including parts of Maryland and Northern Virginia. What is the DMV Hollywood community? DMV Hollywood is a hub where DMV-based actors, producers, directors, musicians, and crew network, share resources, and collaborate to voice their creative sides. I feel that it is going to take substantial work and effort to build, collaborate and share with creatives who are working on, film production, music video shoots, events and community building, which can put much needed spotlights on what the DMV can offer to the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Tammi Rogers, a Baltimore native, has been passionate about the arts since age 3, attending stage plays and concerts with her mother. She’s a natural performer with a commanding presence both on and off stage.
With 38 years of experience, Tammi is an award-winning actor, director, acting coach, producer, casting director, singer, speaker, and film/stage crew member. In 2018, she became the Resident Acting Coach for The Actors Academy DMV, offering training to actors across the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area.
She is the founder of Tammi Rogers Industries, a full-service entertainment company in partnership with Brains Concept Studios. Together, they provide acting, coaching, producing, filming, crew support, and props management.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My first memory of feeling powerful was in second grade. I loved to sing, and my teacher often asked me to perform during “Show & Tell.” When she announced a school talent show, I panicked and tried to back out. She told me I’d fail music if I didn’t participate. I couldn’t bring home a failing grade, so I chose a popular song and got ready.
When I stepped on stage, something changed. It was magical. The crowd was locked in, and I felt powerful. That moment sparked my love for performing. I’ve been honored to share my art on stage ever since.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
As a child, movies and stage plays helped me cope when I felt sad or scared. Watching TV or going to the theater took my mind off things and sparked my imagination. It didn’t take long before I became a movie and stage play lover.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I strongly live by is the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I was raised to believe this deeply. To me, it means treating people with the same respect and care I would want in return. I also believe in karma, what you put out always come back to you.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
After 37 years with the federal government, I’m finally living my dream in the entertainment industry, not just working to make a living. There’s a big difference between waking up to survive and waking up to do what you love. The stress is lighter when you’re doing what you were born to do.
