Rising Stars: Meet Sarah Ferguson, Owner of Sarah B. Charcuterie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Ferguson.

Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always admired small businesses, especially when the items are handmade. It adds a personal and creative touch. I also believe small businesses are paramount to building thriving communities. Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a small business and being such an important part of a community that is supporting my family. I would draw pictures of what my little coffee shop would look like in a big city. As the years went on, I went to Towson University and got my masters in Human Resources Development and I have been working for medium-sized corporations as a human resources professional for the past seven years. However, the dream of having my own business never quite went away.

In 2021, I made a few charcuterie boards for my best friend’s bachelorette party for our day at a winery. They were a hit and I loved the ability to pair meats, cheeses, and more with wine along with the artistic touch. From there, I continued making charcuterie boards for friends and family and while not starting a coffee shop, with some encouragement and support, I finally made the decision to start my own charcuterie business.

It’s been a tough journey as I am a mom of 2 little boys and work a full-time job. But I couldn’t be happier that I have finally been able to bring this dream to life and start something that is giving me the opportunity to learn and be my creative and driven self.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Spoke to it on the last page. Time has been hard. As a mom of a 1.5 years old, five years old, and working 40 plus hours a week, time has been the number one challenge. Also, understanding the health department’s rules and regulations has been something completely new for me to navigate.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I design and create beautiful charcuterie boards, grazing tables, cups, picnic boxes, and more. Each one of my creations includes a variety of meats, cheeses, fresh fruits and vegetables, dried fruits, pickles, olives, jams, honey, fresh herbs and flowers, sweets (such as salted caramel dark chocolates and macarons), crackers, breads, and more. I love designing themed charcuterie boards; boards for holidays, baby showers, bridal parties, birthday parties, and more. My charcutier cups are also a hit! They are the perfect size for one and great as party favors, teacher and employee appreciation gifts, open houses, etc.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Listen to your dreams and passions! Life takes many turns and has many ups and downs but your dreams are always there just waiting for the right time to come to fruition.
