Today we’d like to introduce you to PJ Sullivan.
PJ, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My brother and I were looking to open a brewpub in the Mount Vernon neighborhood for a while. We wanted our spot to be in Mount Vernon because it’s where we lived. It’s our community. So it was there or nowhere. We love the neighborhood and what it offers Baltimore in the way of the museums, the BSO, the Lyric, the art colleges, the architecture, and most importantly the people that live there. In 2016 we got our opportunity when our current location became available. So we dove in and started to make our dream a reality.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As with anything worth doing, there were some challenges. We didn’t have any investors or a lot of capital to kickstart us so we had to be creative with our buildout. A bunch of elbow grease and blood, sweat, and tears from friends and family went into getting the space ready for the public. It was also challenging getting through all the permits, etc. for our tiny brewery. That’s why we started off as a craft beer bar for the first year. We wouldn’t have had it any other way though.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I manage the staff, take care of everything business-related, and drive the brand, social media, and customer experience at Wet City Brewing. Working with our team day-to-day has been a pleasure. We are very lucky to have the staff we have. They are the best at what they do. They make my job easy and super enjoyable. I also really enjoy interacting with our customer base through our social media and creating an engaging narrative they can follow along with. I’ve been working in the branding world for a while now. I also run a graphic design studio called Hardly Square. It’s been key having this experience under my belt.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re just starting to get through this pandemic. Getting back to normal has been our focus. It’s been a whirlwind. But we’ll be canning our house-brewed beer really soon. That’s been a long-time goal of ours and it’s about to be fulfilled. I’m really looking forward to branding our beers and being a part of the beer label designs. I can’t wait until you can have our beer in your fridges at home!
