Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Watson.
Hi Patricia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always in the kitchen with my mother and grandmother learning to cook and follow recipes. The majority of the recipes were handed down perfectly over the generations. It was fun for me and something I truly enjoyed. At the height of the pandemic, I was a branch manager for a financial institution and each day provided its owner stressors.
I would come home, shower, prepare dinner for my family then bake. Baking allowed me to blow out my frustration of working in the pandemic. At the end of 2020, I said I’m going to do something for myself and another friend gave me guidance on website selection. January 2021 is when Pattycakes By The Pound LLC was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The baking road has had its ups and downs, but in life, I’ve learned nothing is perfect. I have to work hard for the things that matter most. The biggest challenge is understanding when I have waste from items that don’t sell when I participate in festivals or pop-ups. But I’m learning as I move along.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My creative drive is something that makes me stand out. My creative cake jars and pound cake selection add variety to my brand. The cake jars are perfect, especially during the pandemic. They each are different and I combine different flavors playing off of sweet and salty.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned this far is to trust yourself and feedback is important. Everything isn’t going to taste great the first time but can be perfected to taste amazing down the road. I’m open to feedback from customers and family. It’s helped me adjust things to continue to grow the business.
