Rising Stars: Meet Kenneth Futrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Futrell.

Hi Kenneth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It really all started for me in September 2021. I was in a situation where I had to leave my job, was going through a breakup, and just trying to keep it all together. When I looked in the mirror, I wasn’t happy with what I saw. I was unhappy, and depressed, because of that, lost about 20-25 lbs.

It was at that point that I said enough was enough and started going to the gym and eating healthy, and prioritizing my self-care. Within about 3-4 months of starting my fitness journey, I was able to gain 30 lbs and regain my confidence. This led me to think, “How can I pass this on to others who are looking to make a similar change in their life?” I ended up coming to the conclusion that I should start posting my workouts on Instagram and Tiktok.

Initially, the growth was slow but when it began to increase, I started getting inquiries about my diet and workouts. I did think too much of it at first but as the inquiries increased, I saw this as an opportunity to pursue my passion. This led me to start 1 on 1 online fitness coaching to help others make a change in their lifestyles with similar methods that worked for me.

Now, I have multiple clients spread between 3 states and I couldn’t be happier!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! I think the biggest struggle for me, to be honest, in the beginning, was believing in myself. I dealt with alot of imposter syndrome, feeling that I wasn’t well equipped to pursue being an entrepreneur.

I had to really sit down and tell myself this is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing and even if it doesn’t work out, I can use this experience to be successful in my next endeavor.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an online fitness coach that specializes in creating custom programs for my clients gearing towards using a mix of weight training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to achieve their personal fitness goals.

I am most proud of not necessarily when my client loses or gains weight, but moreso when they start to engrain healthy habits in their lifestyle because this way the changes have a better chance of becoming permanent. What sets me apart from most is the emphasis that I put on developing healthy habits with my clients.

Focusing on this the most helps my clients develop a healthier lifestyle and prevent them from reverting back to their prior one.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I think the biggest lesson is the importance of having a system to help clients without having to be in person. This lesson led me to double down on online fitness over in-person training.
