Rising Stars: Meet Katrina Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Wright.

Hi Katrina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I began my photography journey when my daughter was 6 months old. I had an old gifted camera and some ideas to take photos of my daughter for her milestones. I was on maternity leave at the time and decided to give it a shot. I’ve always had a knack for photography and art in general. I thrive in creative environments and being able to combine that with my love for family was such a huge plus for me.

I practiced photography on my daughter and friends’ babies/kids and from there things started to roll. I am so lucky to have the support of my husband, friends, and family! I did many model calls and a lot of time investing in education to learn everything I know. With this industry, you can never stop educating yourself!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle has certainly been juggling being a mom and running a business. With being your own boss, the plus is that you can make your schedule. The downside to that is finding that sweet spot of balance.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I began photography, I was so certain I wanted to specialize in newborn photography. As time went on, my passion and strength shifted to milestones/cake smashes and family sessions. That is where I invest most of my time and growth. I would say my cake smashes and family sessions are what I’m most known for.

I love to create beautiful sets for my clients and I love to capture connections between family members. I’m most proud of how my ideas come to life and my ability to foster comfort in the families I work with. Yes, I am a professional, but I want our relationship to be more than that. I want my clients to walk away feeling like they just hung out with friends!

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Be patient with yourself and be patient with making decisions.
