Rising Stars: Meet Johari A. Barnes of Rosedale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johari A. Barnes. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Our founder, Johari A. Barnes, originally started making jams to relax. Little did she know this little hobby would become one of the most exciting ventures she has ever pursued. Since 2016, JohariMade has handcrafted over 30 jams, jellies, and fruit butter flavors. Although Jam, not just for breakfast! JohariMade makes traditional jams such as blueberry, grape, and strawberry. We are known for savory jams such as mango jalapeno, carrot cake, and apple pie. Can purchase JohariMade jams locally at farmer’s markets and pop-up shops, as well as online.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
Entrepreneurship has many twists and turns. Funding for growth and funding for staff are two major challenges.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am Dr. Barnes, a college administrator, but I am making and selling jams on evenings and weekends. I want people to cook with their jams. It’s easier than most realize.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I started making jams to relax while working on my doctorate. I never intended for it to become a business.
