Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodie Sparks.
Hi Jodie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started this blogging journey two years ago. It started out sheerly because friends would ask me where I got certain outfits from or what shade my lipstick was. I won’t say it quickly grew because it definitely didn’t I felt like I was talking to myself most days. But finally, I found my people and they started interacting and following along with my journey.
Fashion and beauty have always been a passion of mine, so much so that my sisters and I just started an online clothing Boutique, Sage 47 Boutique. I give all of the credits to my social media accounts. After doing brand work, and collaborations with other brands and businesses, I realized how much I loved doing this. I realized how much the clothes and personalization mattered to me. I saw the good and the bad with different brands and learned what I like and how I would want to package products. This journey started out being a way to share things with family and friends and has now grown to be something much more. I found myself, my passions, and my future!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has never been “smooth,” trying to find genuine people on Instagram can be hard. And there were times I took breaks for months from my page because I was playing the compare game. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the clean-cut and beautiful photos people post and think, “wow their lives are so perfect,” or “their house is so clean, what am I doing wrong?” But in reality, you’re doing nothing wrong, it’s all perspective. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I pushed some clothes to the side for a photo or quickly made my bed and tidied up the nightstands for a mirror picture. As wonderful as this outlet is, it can be very easy to forget that we’re all human.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My sisters and I just started a boutique, Sage 47 Boutique. We are a size-inclusive boutique and are based on the concept that we want all women to feel beautiful and confident in our pieces. After opening this boutique, I truly never feel like I am “working,” I stay up until 12- or even 1 o’clock in the morning with my sisters picking out new collections or packaging up pieces to ship to customers. It truly is a passion, and I am so proud of where our small business is headed! We started this business out of my guest-room, and it is still currently our boutique room, but we have big goals and dreams so stay tuned…
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to support is by “liking, sharing, saving, and commenting” on photos, reels, etc… That sounds so generic, but it’s true. The best way to support an influencer, a small business, or a professional on social media is engaging. I believe Instagram has certain ratios they follow, for example if you have 100 followers and they all engage, then your photos will be put on the top of their feeds, compared to another person with 100,000 followers who only gets 30 people to engage. I will answer any questions, respond in messenger. I am just an average woman with a passion. I think sometimes we forget most of these people online or real people, and we all want to get to know our followers or customers! I like building a community with the people who choose to support myself, or my small business.
