Rising Stars: Meet Jay Ye

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Ye.

Hi Jay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
On May 26, 2012, I became an independent music artist and released my first solo single, “Pull a U on You,” on February 9, 2016. I finished opening up for Elliot Johnson and Eat The Cake Band in Baltimore at Joe Squared Pizza Spot on July 16, 2022. On October 23, 2016, I did a concert with Power 105.1 Breakfast Club members DJ Envy and Angela Yee ; on November 12, 2016, I did a concert with music artist Young M.A. In 2018, I obtained a Limited Liability Corporation license; in 2019, I obtained a Trademark Principal license; and on October 31, 2020, I released my 6th solo song. The most recent song, “Bout That Action,” has over 100,000 streams.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggle of being an independent music artist is not having the support from your family and friends to push it locally. A different music style puts you in a box that is hard to get out of when your music does not sound like many modern artists. Knowing the music business has saved me from experiencing any musical hardships. Not having that support makes an artist cold once the game and fortune come along. The best advice I can give to inspiring musicians is to build your team before doing everything yourself. You will save sanity, etc.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Outside of music, I know how to market brands or be a spokesman for the community. I learned this skill in 2018 while working with a small business named Quantum Sponsors, and they paid me to promote businesses on my Instagram page. I helped four bills get passed by Congress. In 2020, I decided to add this as a business. So far, I haven’t gotten any clients yet. So I will continue to market my own business. My music streams and awareness have increased. I am using digital billboards and hiring music promoters who are not into scamming me of my money. What sets me apart from other music artists is that I care for inspiring artists who don’t know how to manage themselves as well as I can. So in any situation that impacts music artists in a bad way, I can prevent that from happening if I’m given a chance.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me the most is being able to be well respected even if my music is not likable or the trend of today. Being able to demonstrate to the naysayers that your doubts or whatever cannot affect my grind I want to showcase my stories to help make a difference today.
