Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Nelson.
Hi Imani, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Nails has always been an interest of mine since I was in elementary school. Unfortunately, I had food service jobs so they never let me paint my nails. After working at Panda Express for two years and attending community college, I took a leap of faith and quit my job at Panda and took a break from school. From there, I was working in the mall and practicing nails. I bought a Kiss acrylic kit from Walgreens and went in, my mother was my first “client”. After that, I was in love, all of this happened right before the pandemic, in quarantine all I did was practice and watch YouTube tutorials. No music, tv shows, etc. I believe I found my passion and a career path I’d like to pursue.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been smooth. My family and friends have always been supportive. My family still pushes me to finish school.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a part-time nail tech and a full-time marketing coordinator. Nail wise I specialize in acrylic nails, a lot of people know me for my crisp shaping, I am proud of everything I do, I love what I do. As a nail artist, I put my heart into my work, I always do what’s best for the client and emphasize communication between the client and I. Many clients tell me they enjoy coming to me because they can relax and be themselves, that’s what I want for them. I like to give my clients the best experience possible and provide service they can brag about for weeks or months to come.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My top favorite podcast and influencers are the Young Nails Inc. team. They have a BizTalk podcast that talks everything nails, from business to personal development as a nail tech and marketing tips. They have definitely been a substantial part of my nail career. I also read my Bible, I believe God blessed me with this gift and has helped me find my passion in life. I have to definitely have to give thanks to him.
