Rising Stars: Meet Flee DEBEA$$I

Today we’d like to introduce you to Flee DEBEA$$I.

Hi, Flee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Flamethrwz Music Group – DEBEA$$I.

A poet at heart, I’ve always had a creative ability to express my thoughts with words. I don’t think I discovered my love of writing music and performing music until I was in my adult years.

As a teen and adolescent, it was mainly poetry. As a youth, I was more immersed in the culture of hip-hop. No matter how much I tried mom wouldn’t buy that Doggystyle. She would ok the 2Pac. The bedroom wall was full of pictures from the source and word-up magazines, dropping by the local record shop weekly and on release day.

I can remember leaving high school to go grab the LOX We Are the Streets. This is where I fell in love with hip hop, but I was more intrigued by the Dame Dashes, Master P’s, and the Rap-A-Lot Records of the world.

Fast forward to the mid-2000s the vision of FlamethrwzMusic was to be a medium of promotion for the independent artist. Back in those days, I was more behind the scenes, making mixtapes for the neighborhood of the artist throughout the area and city.

What started out as a mixtape series and promotions avenue for the independent artist has transformed into the entertainment company I’ve always envisioned myself running. What we have become as Flamethrwz Music Group is a publishing administration and entertainment company.

It was not overnight, as it took many months of unanswered questions, years seeking knowledge, and chasing information. I became obsessed with the publishing aspect of the industry. The one question I set out to answer was how do you build a business around this thing we love to do called music?

How do we get money from screaming into this microphone? It was not until 10 years later I figured it out. And I am still learning, one of the most important things on this journey was building up the confidence to trust in myself and bet on myself.

The best Investment is self-investment.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not smooth by any means. My biggest struggle is having questions, and not knowing who to ask. A lot of times when seeking knowledge I want to know from people who have done the same or similar things.

Not only breaking down the information to fully understand it may be challenging but putting it into action is a different hurdle. At first and a lot of times before it becomes routine, I am left with questions did I do this correctly?

That led to me going out to seek this knowledge by any means. Even before I do something new I may procrastinate thinking I need more info on this or I need to seek a more professional opinion.

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve gotten along the way was “If you absolutely know what’s gotta be done, why haven’t you done it? ”

And with that learned to trust in the knowledge you have or go with what you know.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
DEBEA$$I recording artist of YS2DEF Owner, CEO of Flamethrwz Music Group.

I love writing, recording, and performing music, however, my forte is the business of music. Mainly music publishing entrepreneur and artist I wear many hats and roles but I am most proud of the independent music company Flamethrwz Music Group.

What sets me apart is the genuine authenticity displayed in anything that I do, along with the commitment to delivering quality. Whether it’s making music or in business dealings, my obligation is to provide a unique experience that will leave an everlasting impression.

What matters most to you?
Staying true to self. I am really big on that. With so many things changing over time from generation to generation you kinda get lost in the “what’s what” or “who’s who”.

Sometimes you find yourself looking pleased or being accepted by everyone but yourself. The minute I became comfortable with this is who I am, I started to move differently.

Everyone may have different values and principles, it is important to have purpose and stand on the things you believe in.

Live for something or die for nothing. Staying true to self creates respect. Not only are you respecting your beliefs but others respect you for that.
