Rising Stars: Meet Emmanuel Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuel Williams.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello, my name is Emmanuel “Dj Menace” Williams AKA 808 E.

Being raised in Baltimore, MD in a household where music was always played! I grew a passion and love for it. At the age of 10, I fell in love even more once I saw for the first time a set of technique Turntables that my dad owned but was never allowed to touch.

As time went by and my love for music got strong I started to figure out ways to pretend that I was using my dad’s turntables by using 2 Radios with CD players connecting them to a speaker and would play them at the same time.

Once I realized that my creativity sparked. At the age 15, I was given a video game that was on PlayStation 1 the first system called “MTV Music Generator” from my next-door neighbor name “Dee” Real music mogul he took me to a professional recording studio where I then grew the love for creating music.

Still having the love for Djing but never had the inspiration I gave up and became stressed due to my parents losing house after house that we lived in and getting kicked out of schools I had to stay with other family members.

After a year of no music no passion I started roaming the streets feeling alone and doing XYZ.

At the age of 17, I was out with some friends and as I was on the way to get dropped off I saw this beautiful young lady by the name of Shakeena. We got to know each other and talked all day and night she helped me get it together and uplifted me.

After months going by spending time together, I got the best news in life I was soon to be a father which motivated me to get a job.

Working so hard I realized that the passion for music started fighting its way back on top of the good that I was going to be a father made me become a man. Saving up money for my son and equipment made me feel like I was invincible. Shakeena changed my life!! After years of being with her, I finally brought my equipment.

Balancing having a job and taking care of a baby I lost interest in using the equipment. One night, I was going to a friend’s house named Dj Taf with my equipment for a jam session later that night as arrived home in a cab and got robbed of all of my DJ equipment it was a horrible experience that made me quit music for a few years.

Taking my mind off of that horrible situation I worked every day and started falling into that depressed mood again. Shakeena knows me so well that she knew something was wrong and she was determined to find out

When she realized that after I lost my DJ equipment I started to become sad. She decided to get an extra job just to save up and surprise me and said you go ahead and use your money to buy your DJ equipment again I got bills until you get your equipment. That made me realize that this young lady loves me and saw so much in me that I didn’t even see.

Long story short, I got the DJ equipment I started getting gigs at clubs and private events where I started to see how much fun and how exciting it is to make others dance and have fun. I started to fall back in love with making music.

7 years later, I and my wife Shakeena and our 3 kids moved into a new house I made the basement my recording studio. Recording and helping local artists with finding a sound where my stepbrother “BONEZ” came to record along with the crew.

As time went by, I found myself recording over 30 different artists out of that 30 was an artist by the name “Lor Dae” recording his first album with a Debut single called “Ooouuu” (Work It) Co-Produced by myself and KP now is a Baltimore Classic record that everyone loves once it comes on.

After having a few artist albums getting great feedback from professional music moguls! that gave me the opportunity to work with the popular artist by the name of “President Davo, Dj Rod Lee, Tae Wilson, and many others local and out of state I now knew that I had to keep helping the new artists.

Now at the age of 35, I have a professional recording studio, an artist-developing program, and Djing in multiple clubs a week I help new local artists find their sound and build up their confidence by performing live, spinning their records, and promoting them.

I know this might not seem important to a lot of people but for all that, it’s worth I will continue to help any artist get to where I wanted to be and help them stay off the streets. By creating space where they can come to a create and talk about their problems.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Depression. Being homeless. Not eating at times. Not feeling loved. Getting everything you worked hard for robbed/Taken from you. Where some of the worst things happened to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I own a recording studio where I offer multiple services such as:

  • Recording
  • Production
  • Mix and Mastering
  • Djing
  • Graphic Designs
  • Photography
  • Artist Development program and more.

I’m known for Djing and Audio Engineering. Witch is the reason why most artists come to me because I’m a one-stop shop where most other recording studios don’t offer those things above

My most proud achievement is helping create a record that became a city-wide classic party record called Ooouuu by Lor Dae.

I would like everyone to know that I’m one of the most humble hungry and passionate people that anyone can meet. I want to work with anyone that loves music as I do and I’m willing to put in the hard work to help get the most out of themselves.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being patient is key.

I learned that rushing to get to places will affect what you learn on the way and that it’s best to take your time and walk through the path of knowledge so when you get to the destination you be not only ready but smart enough to know when something not legitimate or right.
