Rising Stars: Meet Devyn Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devyn Moore.

Devyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began photography as a freshman in high school, I began with three years of photography classes during my high school career. I continued as a hobbyist photographer throughout high school as well as into my adult life. I gave birth to my daughter in July of 2020 and began my photography business in November 2020. I feel as though my daughter motivated me to pursue a career in photography as I realized how important it is to capture moments and love doing so for my own family, as well as many others.

Throughout this journey, I have been able to meet and form long-lasting friendships with many of the clients that I have. In addition to being a photographer, I also earned my master’s degree in Social Work from Salisbury University in 2021 and I am still in practice today as a social worker as well. I can only hope to be a symbol to my daughter that anyone can do whatever they put their mind to.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say that in some ways it has, and in some ways, it has not. Photography comes with such a learning curve but there are so many resources out there to learn and grow. I would consider myself to be a lifelong learner, therefore, I try to teach myself new skills and always remain open to new information.

Having a newborn, finishing a master’s degree, and starting a business during a global pandemic were not necessarily the easiest routes to have followed, but they have led me to the person that I am today and for that, I am incredibly thankful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In general terms, I am a photographer, but I feel as though I really specialize in working with young children and families. I feel as though I am known for my patience and flexibility with my clients. As a parent myself, I try to be very understanding of families and their needs while also doing my absolute best to capture each of my clients in a special way. I am most proud of the relationships that I have formed and that I am continuing to form with the clients that I serve.

My “social work” brain allows me to connect with others in a way that I find invaluable. In our state, and our general area, there are SO many incredibly talented photographers, it is difficult to identify what sets me apart as I know so many photographers feel and think the same about our clients as I do. I truly care about my clients and view them as my friends, I remember special things about each one of the clients I work with as I always want people to view me as more than someone with a nice camera/equipment.

What’s next?
My plans for the future are to continue as I have been and continue to grow and gain new clients, as well as work towards perfecting my craft. A recent change is relocating a bit and completing my “shed studio” which I began taking sessions with this month. I am looking forward to continuing to grow in my current space and as a photographer.
