Rising Stars: Meet Channel Matheny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Channel Matheny.

Hi Channel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing makeup as a side gig by assisting my husband’s photography business by being his on-site makeup artist.

Makeup has always been a passion of mine but I never took doing makeup seriously until I actually worked as a freelance makeup artist for a prestige beauty brand.

Fast forward to now, I started my makeup business in October 202o with a serious rebranding of the business by investing the knowledge of being a freelance makeup artist on my own terms and having a business in general.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Being in business owner is definitely not easy. Because the truth is in business, things aren’t always going to be pretty. The number one skill that’s helped me become a successful makeup artist thus far is resilience.

You have to have the ability to try and fail. The ability to aim high, fall short, and keep going anyway. I had a lot of people who did not believe in me at first, and some people passed over me for the business opportunities.

Business is not for the weak and it can get tough but you have to have the strength and wisdom to keep pushing on.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a makeup artist that is based in Richmond, Virginia, and travel throughout Virginia and beyond.

My primary specialty is flawless makeup application and brow maintenance. My artistry is primarily in the fields of events and bridal. My goal as a makeup artist is to create-The Flawless Beauty Experience-when you sit in my chair that you are treated like the celebrity you are.

One of my biggest goals as your makeup artist is to make sure you feel beautiful inside and out for your special occasion.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I honestly believe that being resilient and having guts is the most important quality in the success of my business. I have realized that my vision and legacy and my beauty business are so worth it.
