Hi Yilda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I was young, my dad used to buy ordinary soap bars. This, for me was boring because I always smelled the same. Back in college, I got the idea of marketing a product, and I started making glycerin soaps. Time flew by, and I postponed my creation of soaps. As a single mother working full time, I did not have the time to focus on making my dream come true.
One day, I bought a steam blender for $42 and a mold for creating soaps even though the situation was tight in my household. Suddenly, I found my daughter creating a Facebook page and a logo to help me make my dream come true. As I don’t rely much on technology, my daughter Yil helped me engage with my online customers. Now I’m fulfilling my dream of the youth alongside Yil, making artisan environmental friendly soaps. Our focus is to create products free of plastic and toxic-free. Both are good for our skin and our planet. Because as we take care of our skin, we want to take care of our planet.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been extremely difficult for me to learn about social media. To create stories on Instagram and learn the mechanics behind their marketing use of them. Another thing I struggled with is storage and workshop space because my current house is too small for my big ideas.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in artisan eco-friendly soaps. We are known for our dedication and commitment to help the environment with natural products and reusable packaging. Our compromise is making great soaps and helping the planet simultaneously. This is what differences us from other soap makers.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My biggest support has been my daughter, Yildry, because she was the one who took the initiative on creating the brand, the social media, and most of all, she has been the pillar behind me. She pushed me to my limits. By not letting me fall and most of the time sacrificing of her time to create the business plans, web pages, logo, and have everything by working from behind the scene. She is the core behind Artisan.
