Meet Yaffa Koff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yaffa Koff.

Hi Yaffa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was always fascinated by photography and got my first professional camera when I was in high school. I didn’t really see it as a career option when I first started working so I tabled the idea for many years.

When my husband finished all his schooling and I was no longer the main breadwinner, I decided to pick it up again. After taking classes online and doing all the different types of photography out there, I decided to focus on a specific niche. When I discovered newborn photography I felt so connected to the idea.

My first two babies had spent time in the NICU when they were first born and missing out on those first few moments with them made me realize how incredible those precious first few days and weeks are!

Branching out to include Maternity and the entire first year just made sense, that way my clients can get consistent beautiful portraits as their baby grows.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obviously, with any small business, there are ups and downs. As a creative, I feel very connected with my work so when I’m busy and I have lots of clients everything is great!

When things are slower, I need to find ways to keep busy and fulfilled. Getting clients is always the hardest part of being a photographer. Thank God, I’ve been able to find clients who love and appreciate my work and find it worth the investment, but that wasn’t always the case.

Many people assume that photography should be beautiful and “cheap” and because of that, can’t or won’t invest in a good photographer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a newborn through the first year portrait photographer. I specialize in capturing those precious early moments in the first year of your child’s life and turning them into beautiful artwork that you can enjoy for a lifetime!

I’m most proud of my personal growth as an artist. I’m constantly learning and figuring out new ways to do things so that I can give my clients the best experience and artwork. I love that my clients are comfortable with me and that so many of them turn into friends!

I’m different from other photographers in that I hold my client’s hands through every step of the process. From the initial consultation, where we plan out the session in detail, to helping them decide what clothing everyone should wear. (I have even gone to clients’ homes to help them look through their closets!).

From helping them pick the perfect portrait for their wall to hand-delivering their gorgeous heirloom artwork. My clients know I’m there for them.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Hard work is a huge part of it, but I’d be lying to say that was it. I think the fact that I’m honest about who I am; Mom of 5 and Orthodox Jew, that my clients feel comfortable and at ease.

Once they meet me and see how down-to-earth and relaxed I am, and the fact that I’m an experienced Mom it makes them feel that they can trust me.
