Meet Whitley Kels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitley Kels.

Hi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I quit the corporate job that I worked at for 5 years. I was unemployed for months, and I decided to take the time to think of things I love to do. Spin came to mind, and I decided to get my spin certification. I had no expectations, I just wanted to provide a positive environment for myself and others. I came up with the name SpinwithWhit after my certification class. I felt it fit perfectly because my name is Whitley, and I work out during all my classes. I found a great bike lender and a studio space to hold my classes at City Athletics Inc. in a section of Philadelphia, PA, called Nicetown. I started my classes on July 1st, 2021, with 7 bikes; within the year of my business, I now have 16 bikes in the spin studio. I am excited for what is in store for my business.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Through the challenges and lessons, I have learned that I should let go of things I cannot control and enjoy the moment because every situation is either a lesson or a blessing. Nothing worth it is ever easy, It’s a journey that I am learning from every day, keeps me on my toes, and I don’t want to get comfortable. I want to feel like I am growing throughout this process.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Along with owning my own indoor cycling business, I am a Business Education teacher and a coach at a high school.

Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is taking care of myself mentally and physically. Knowing I am at my best, I can have a positive experience with others. I also love being around people who genuinely love me for who I am, and that makes me happy.
